I ate the parchment paper ! Thought it was bad filo pastry! Will I be OK?

Yep . At a party , I was offered a tray of nibbles. It looked like a bacon stack set in filo pastry.
Friend passing said that she didn't like them. But I had already bitten into it , so continued to be polite. Thought it tasted a bit chewy. Later , helping to clear up , commented to host that people seemed to leave the pastry aside. " Pastry ? That is the baking paper . " FFS. We had a good laugh. But then wondering if it will do any harm ? Cause blockage? Any thoughts?
Anyone else ( besides fat ball DH ) eaten anything by mistake ?!

You’ll be fine. I eat paper quite frequently (weird habit don’t judge me) and have never had a problem

Stillfunny · 05/12/2019 11:38

It is the fact that it is baking paper . Used for high temperatures. I just hope it breaks down like ordinary paper.

This reminds me of friend chucking on parmesan all throughout her pizza, then afterwards commented it was quite sweet and realising she'd been putting sugar on it....

You'll be fine...meanwhile I'm going to try and think of some good paper related puns!

Subzerohero · 05/12/2019 11:40

Worst case scenario you will pass it out in your stool, no need to panic

Subzerohero · 05/12/2019 11:41

Op, did your friend try eating the baking paper too?

HarrietTheFly · 05/12/2019 11:42

When I was a child I frequently ate the corners of pages of books as I read them.. including when I was a teenager.

I see from your update you are specifically worries about it being baking paper, but baking paper does get stuck on food sometimes I imagine and is probably accidentally consumed because of that. It's made to be in close contact with food so I doubt it would do any harm. I think we can eat a lot of stuff we aren't really supposed to eat... It just comes out

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/12/2019 11:43

Why on earth were they served on baking paper?!

MarianaMoatedGrange · 05/12/2019 12:04

OP are you starting to take on an oven-like appearance? Do you have urges to place saucepans on your head?

codenameduchess · 05/12/2019 12:08

Why was the paper still on it? Don't you take that off before serving?

Sure you'll be fine, I accidentally ate a napkin recently... had a hotdog at the cinema and only realised when I went to look for the napkin after I'd finished eating it that I'd left it on the bun and eaten the lot. In my defence it was dark and I was in the grip of irrational pregnancy hunger. No ill effects.

You’ll be ok. A friend’s son once made a cottage pie at school and didn’t remove the meat paper from the bottom of the mince. He just mushed it up into bits as he browned the mince. They only noticed half way through the meal. They were fine!

Stillfunny · 05/12/2019 12:15

In my defence they were in little cases that at the time, to me looked like filo.

AndGoldenfishGirl I am feeling a bit browned off.Xmas Grin

I think that’s a very reasonable presumption on your part - very odd of the host not to remove the paper before serving.
You’ll be fine, it’ll turn up in your toilet bowl soon!

lubeybooby · 05/12/2019 13:17

I was on a date once and the guy ate the baking paper around his salmon. Well a bite anyway - then he complained and was told it was paper.

Then I set fire to the dessert menu by holding it too near a candle.

Date didn't go anywhere romantic but we're still friends!

Worse case scenario you’ll get a paper cut on your bum hole Grin

My late DGM did something similar once with some pork loin steaks. Her cataracts were bad at the time and she couldn't see the difference. Thing is she was a really good cook so I didn't realise till I started chewing....GrinGrin

nevergotthehangofthursdays · 06/12/2019 16:05

OP, tell them to use rice paper next time - that's properly edible. DM has used it for speciality cakes and tarts.

Gingernaut · 06/12/2019 16:12

When I first started college, the Catering students served in the refectory.

I regularly bought pastries and found they were quite 'chewy'.

In the second year, I was sitting with some classmates and one had bought a pastry.

She picked it up, looked at the bottom and peeled a circle of paper from the bottom of the pastry

I HAD BEEN EATING THE PAPER ALL THE PREVIOUS YEAR

You'll be fine OP.
