Positive experiences of GP surgeries anyone?

Lots of discussions on here about poor service from GPS, practice managers, receptionists and hospital consultants in general. I've recently had two very positive experiences and wondered if anyone else has?
Went to GPs at 9am one morning to collect my DHs prescription and asked the receptionist what would be the best thing to do if I thought I had a fish bone stuck in my throat. She said I needed to see the GP, put me on the drop in list and asked me to take a seat. Waited half an hour. The GP had a look and said she needed to phone the hospital for advice. It took 20 minutes for her to get a response with me waiting in her room. Sent straight up to dv with a letter. From there (A+E), was sent up to ENT ward to wait to see the consultant.
Had an hours wait, then examined, fish bone remover and sent on my way.

The second one was this week. Made an online appointment a week ago, citing a dodgy knee giving way as the reason. 3 week wait for an appointment out of work time. (Could have got in slightly earlier if I came out of work). Call from receptionist yesterday. GP had reviewed the online appointments and wanted to see me earlier as my knee was giving way. Went in today, examined, questioned and sent away with a letter to do another online booking to the 'knee clinic'. For a scan.
Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a problem getting an urgent appointment, staff have always been polite and helpful, doctors have always shown concern.
My only 'complain' is when going for a pre op check, the nurse was quite brusque after weighing me telling me I could do with losing a stone-she must have been a size 24 or more!

My local GP surgery is pretty good too. Twice with my baby they have advised me to me to come straight down with her rather than waiting. And they have been good with me too. It's nice to see some positives.

Ours is amazing if used how intended. 2 urgent care clinics a day for emergency appointments, initially seen by prescribing nurses but can be passed to a doctor if needed.
Online self referral where you input details of your issue, if urgent you're seen within a day or 2, if not booked in at a time convenient to you.
All standard consults initially done over the phone.
All works well as long as people follow procedures

Positive here too. Can always get an appointment at my gp same day and never wait long. Receptionists are kind and friendly. I took dd to see doc once when she was about 5 and he rang in the evening to see if she had improved!

My Gp surgery is excellent. They still do home visits. Usually can get a same day appointment.

Mine are fab. Sensible online booking system, lovely GPs. When I was in a bad place after DS2 was born they couldn’t have seen me more quickly.

Mine are mostly OK. I try to avoid like the plague and only go when I'm in pain (usually UTI) and tell them this. I generally manage to get a nurse's appt the same day. Having a nurse practitioner on the premises does help.

I live in Scotland so don't know if that makes a difference?

My old GP surgery was wonderful .

Continuous consistent care and support for almost ten years , on the day appointments, phone appointments, email services, online stuff . GP once phoned me daily when facing horrendous family circumstances just to make sure I was OK . My doctor was always, always late but that was down to giving you the time you needed and not rushing you out the door .

They al were very friendly, just all round lovely . I miss the practice like crazy when I need to see a GP now .

My mother’s surgery are also very good when it’s needed - two or three times gave me emergency treatment even though I wasn’t a patient . After a major op age 19 or so I was discharged home to mums after 24h, the next morning her doctor and the practice nurse came round to the house and negotiated with my own doctor to make sure someone saw me daily for a week . They couldn’t have been better if they tried .

Had surgery 3 years ago and at home one evening shortly afterwards & my go telephoned to see how I was.
Receptionists always polite & pleasant at surgery and yesterday morning got an appointment for yesterday evening with an on the day appointment

Mine is great. Telephone triage appointments with the GP then same day appointments. Always see the kids within an hour or so. They're brilliant. We're in East Anglia- small market town.

My GP is bloody wonderful. It is quite a way away as it covers a large rural area, but I can almost always get a same day appointment, and if not a GP will ring to discuss. They stayed late to see me the day I found a breast lump, made the referral to the breast clinic straight after seeing me (despite it being after hours) and I was seen 3 days later. They will do repeat prescription appointments over the phone, and sometimes other things (and have been accepting of me explaining I am a nurse and I know what is wrong with me of the dc).

Ours is very good. They operate a daily call up system whereby you call that day from 8:30 and will be seen that day, provided you call by about midday. They are open evenings and weekends, and also offer various nurse, pharmacy and special clinics. Appointments can be booked in advance either on the phone or online. You can also request a triage call back - I have had referrals and antibiotics issued by phone for me to pick up. They partner with the local walk in GP centre and if there’s a rare occasion you can’t get seen in the surgery, you can go there and get a good level of care, immediately.

On two occasions in the last few years they have immediately referred me to hospital and although the experience went downhill from there i can’t fault the GP’s efforts.

Our hospital is under funded, over stretched and inefficient. I don’t worry too much about the GP, but the hospital really worries me.
