So how come B&Q can email me my receipt but Tesco can't?

It's annoying

Because they're different shops with different customers with different experiences at the check out

Most people don't need to keep receipts from their weekly/daily shop as a rule.

But at B&Q you might be making more 'long term' purchases with warranties etc.

Plus, b&q don't have the volume of customers at the checkout, and take a bit longer over things.

Imagine if every Tesco transaction took as long as a B&Q one? And then people were spending time telling the operator their email address on top of that!

KatyMac · 04/12/2019 19:02

But Tesco manage to add my points and tell me where how I spent them (CC/Bank/Shop/Phone) they have my email address & they use it often enough - it should just be a tick box online and boom there the receipts are

They are normally right at the front of technology

It makes me wonder if they are making it harder to take things back as a weekly shop receipt is often lost

But why would you want it emailed?
I'm sure Mr Tesco has thought about this and considered the expense over the practicalities and said no?

00100001 · 05/12/2019 08:37

I don't have a clubcard, and would get annoyed if at every transaction I was asked for my email address...

Normally people want in and out and queues at checkouts are a PITA

MrsMaiselsMuff · 05/12/2019 08:40

You could put your receipt somewhere you won't lose it?

JigsawsAreInPieces · 05/12/2019 08:41

I never accept an emailed receipt. I want the paper one which I put in a notebook just in case.

I get too many emails as it is!

PuppyMonkey · 05/12/2019 08:47

It’s probably health and safety at work. Or political correctness gone mad. Or a breach of GDPR. One of that lot.Grin

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/12/2019 08:50

The only reason shops want to email you your receipt is so they can spam you with marketing crap until you unsubscribe.

Tesco shopping doesn't really warrant a receipt other than to prove to the security guard you haven't stolen anything when the cashier inevitably forgets to remove a security tag from a jumper you've bought.

If you buy something you may possibly have to return just take more care of your receipt.

KatyMac · 05/12/2019 08:53

Now you see I assumed they would ask - you would just get it automatically if you have a clubcard (with an option to opt out of you don't want it)

@MrsMaiselsMuff Beyond my capabilities atm sorry

@Puppymonkey - I think you could be right

@JigsawsAreInPieces paper will be obsolete soon enough.....save the trees and all that Wink

wouldn't ask (sorry)

I think it would have to be opt in.

Plus it would have significant overheads in running the system.

Some people go in every day... Would you really want that many emails from Tesco?

You pop in and buy a tube of smarties at 3:30after school on Monday....email

Grab a pint if milk and bread Thursday morning.... Email

Buy a box of chocolates and wine that evening..email

Weekly shop...email

Partner buys lunch every day ....email...email.... email... email... email

Of which you might need the receipt once.... Maybe??

Where as B&Q you might go to a handful of times a year. And you might have bought a lawnmower, where you do need to keep the receipt for the warranty...

CornishMaid1 · 05/12/2019 10:14

I rarely buy something in Tescos that I actually need to keep the receipt for. I generally do not have to take groceries back after I have bought them. If I do buy something (more likely a gift this time of year with Christmas) then I just keep the receipt in a folder of receipts.

I like it in Sainsburys as we use the self-scan machines and you can opt out of having any receipt at all. Saves me having to bin the receipt when I get home since the paper they use for the receipts is not recyclable.

adaline · 05/12/2019 10:23

Because generally you don't need to keep your receipt for your weekly shop. I don't even look at mine - it gets shoved in the bag with the shopping, which gets shoved in a cupboard with all the other bags until I re-use them at a later date.

If I need to keep a receipt for some reason, I'll put it away safely somewhere else.

Lunafortheloveogod · 05/12/2019 10:32

Do you really want an email cause you bought a Freddo? Or to be held back another 20-30 minutes by the people before all day spelling out their emails for crap they wont bring back.

B&Q/clothing shops tend to have more chance of a return than groceries. Bigger Tesco’s might offer it eventually at the concession counters for phones n games but that means training staff on something they might use, and forget how to, twice a year.
