Crossfit, without a doubt

To get toned I'd get on the rowing machine for 20 minutes 3 times a week then just spend the rest of my time weight lifting or going for a light run on the running machine. Swimming keeps my husband fit.

Body pump

Does "effective" mean you will love your food more than ever afterwards? Then I vote swimming.

Lighteninginabottle27 · 04/12/2019 22:15

Body pump (weights+cardio element)
Spin
Swimming
Walking/ short runs

Pilates 4/5 times a week for around 45 mins.
And about 3/4 15 minute walks a day (to and from the station/bus stop etc)

That was the most natural and I actually had Abs.

I also found a few years later that body pump & Zumba back twice a week with a swim kept me up well.

Kettle bells

@HowToStopThis9 I had been uhmming and ahhing about whether to join for years and I just got sick of looking and feeling shit so from the day i joined i was at 4 times a week, I now sometimes go 5 days if I can.
I am an all or nothing type of person in every way however, so I know that if I let myself slip and start skipping days then that's it I'll end up stopping completely so even when I'm feeling tired or PMS-y I still force myself to go.
Its helped my mental health amazingly too so in my head I know I need to keep going in order to stay mentally happy.
One thing someone taught me is.."trust yourself". Trust yourself that you can and will go to the gym/workout/play tennis..if you let yourself down in the past it doesnt matter, trust that you can get back on track and you will!. Bit cheesy but it works.

Running for feeling free.

Taekwondo for tone.

Kickboxing for feeling like you can tackle the world.

Jaybaydba · 05/12/2019 15:55

Compound movement (bench press , squats etc)
Essentially weight lifting..
Dropped a tonne of weight , corrected back issues, became more focused, became more determined more confident, became more controlled with my eating..

running in the park - no cost except for shoes. I was in loads of gyms over the years and none come close to outdoor running.

Great for toning and for mental health and general fitness.

Kettlebell 2 times a week and hit class combined with walking for an hour on days I'm not at a class.

That's what got me fit ... a couple of years ago so I've lost it all again.

tectonicplates · 05/12/2019 16:19

Anything with Jillian Michaels!

Scooby30 · 05/12/2019 16:54

If you want to start easy I recommend a programme by a woman called Lesley Sansone, it's a walking programme you do indoors. I watch them on you tube.
