cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:15

I generally buy whats on offer, or the cheapest.

What's your fave for it's cleanliness and scent?

cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:18

And do you prefer tablets, gel pods or liquid?

I get smol delivered to the door. It's a gel pod.

LadyFuschia · 04/12/2019 16:19

I like Aldi green one for biological (on whites & bed linen) but use I scented environmentally friendly one on the rest, no softeners. Am not a fan of over-perfumed stuff.

Speaking of which, there is a reasonably common product used which smells SOOOO strong and sickly, like fake apple scent, and it’s vile. Don’t know what it is but if I put an item previously washed in it with a load of my own stuff it transfers the smell after washing to my laundry. Once went to stay with a friend and couldn’t sleep properly all night as the smell of her bedsheets (clean on) was so overpowering, plus I’d drunk lots of wine so was even worse!

Choose your scents carefully 😄

LadyFuschia · 04/12/2019 16:20

unscented

MotherWol · 04/12/2019 16:20

I like Surf - the white one (herbal?). Just has a nice 'clean laundry' scent to it.

user5656 · 04/12/2019 16:22

Ariel or Persil.
Powder in a cardboard box.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 16:22

I buy bio powder. I use surf, bold, ariel, persil, etc but only if it's on offer

cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:22

I know it's super voring but I have to go and get some liquid/powder etc when i leave work and can't decide whether to go to asda (en route), The Range (where I'm going) or Iceland (net door to the range) and then what to even get.

We dry out washing on an over the door maiden/airer as we live in an apartment.

How do you use guys powder? I ask because we realised I was overdosing the last time I used powder.... like double the amount and my machine sounded like a wookie.

Then when i moved to liquid our washing would stink when it came out and I realise I was underdosing and needed double the amount of liquid!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 16:24

The pink surf powder is nice, especially when it's not full price

twoturtledove · 04/12/2019 16:24

We use Smol non-bio. Wouldn't touch anything else!

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 16:26

I have a scoop I got free from a website. Or measure with a small jug

cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:26

@demented... I guess I should read the instructions on the back then Confused Ahaha... I just bung a capful in or what have you.

we live in a hardwater area

cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:27

And actually, you wise people... whats better? bio or non bio?

OP posts:
ExpletiveFairylighted · 04/12/2019 16:28

Aldi powder, it smells quite strong in the box but you can't smell it on the clothes once they're dry.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 16:31

Both persil and Ariel will send you a scoop if you contact them. Bio is better for food stains as the enzymes break them down. I always use bio powder

LetMeLayAmongTheStars · 04/12/2019 16:33

Non bio Powder for whites
Fairy liquid (not the gel) for colours

There was an AMA thread on here a few months ago where a poster worked for a washing machine company and she said that powder keeps your whites white because of small amounts of bleach and the liquid keeps your colours coloured

Astrabees · 04/12/2019 16:33

Fairy, it is the only one that doesn't set off my allergies. I prefer powder as it lasts much longer.

NoWayNoHow · 04/12/2019 16:34

Surf is my favourite - the pink one.

As an aside, we used to use Ariel but when our last washing machine packed up and the engineer came to fix it, he said that Ariel foams far too much which freaks the machines out. He said in his experience, it causes more problems than all the detergents combined!

cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:34

Ahhhh ok great tip there @LetMeLayAmongTheStars

I dunno.... We're on a tight budget and we have been getting the £150 washing liquid from asda but I want to "splash out" and get something else.

OP posts:
cjt110 · 04/12/2019 16:35

Make the decision for me people. I am leaving shortly and I don't know what to get/do!

OP posts:
olivo · 04/12/2019 16:37

Purple bold powder tablets, but really hard to get around here and expensive online.

Bio powder for most things, Waitrose non bio powder for delicates. Find liquid always smells odd!

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 16:37

Use Asda own make powder then

HighOnStilts · 05/12/2019 23:14

We use Smol non-bio gel pods. It's posted through your letterbox so I don't even have to think about detergent when it comes to our weekly shop! Smells lovely too.

Thelnebriati · 05/12/2019 23:16

Asda smart price bio, its less than £3 for a big box, doesn't stink, and doesn't make you itch.
