Puppy and a white gloss floor - what do I need?

This is our first winter with our fab puppy. However, we have a white gloss kitchen floor (not my choice, came with the house)

The door to the garden leads into the kitchen - the floor is beyond filthy at all times - no amount of paw wiping helps!

What do I need to sort it that doesn't take half an hour? Spray mop? steam mop? Dog shoes? Something else?

Please help!

Get a dirt trapper mat to put just inside the door - makes a huge difference.

Some sort of mat as dog comes in. Then put dog into couple of inches of water in sink.

Sorry should have mentioned, I have a mat, no joy.

Depends on your garden configuration but can you fence off just the patio whilst it's this muddy??

Otherwise I find its less time to take the dog out to toilet on lead on my front gravel drive rather than clean up the mud after he's been galivanting on his own in the back garden. Depends if you've young kids to supervise etc though

Oh and a succession of mats inside, I use Marvel Mats from Dunelm.

Spray mop. I have laminate where the dog comes in (and one of those supposedly magic mats which trap precisely fuck all dirt/mud) and find that a quick whip round with the dustpan and brush/handheld hoover to get rid of any bits then a wipe with the mop sorts out the floor when he comes in with muddy paws. I do try to wipe his feet with a towel when he comes in but sometimes he's too quick!

ArcherDog · 04/12/2019 14:19

Towel down, doesn't look the best but it stops the mud!

Otherwise, sweep/mop every day.

Welcome to Winter with a dog!

A trapper mat won't do much for very mucky paws. I find myself wiping the pup's paws like we do our feet but she just thinks I'm playing and trys to wrestle/eat me..

But to be honest we also have gloss tiles and I have just given up. No way am I cleaning it every day.

The rest of downstairs is wood effect at least, so hides it pretty well..

Friends of ours have a similar floor and ended up putting down that pretend grass stuff because it drove them so crazy cleaning the floor.

This doesn't help at all but our kitchen and utility room floors are slate and they're brilliant for dogs and hardly show up the filth. I'd have loved gloss tiles but never dared when we redid the kitchen.

CMOTDibbler · 04/12/2019 14:41

Spray mops are ideal for this. I keep one by the back door and just have a swish round periodically. We have 5 of the cloth heads so they can be changed as much as possible

Thelaughinggnome123 · 04/12/2019 14:44

I trained mine to stay on the big peice of carpet by the back door. I fowler of the worse then she slept till dry.

Toweled off the worst

Re tile with a more practical colour...

When we moved here the kitchen/dining/conservatory (one long room) was pale cream high gloss and a nightmare to keep clean with the dogs, we stood it for 6 months then redid it with darker matt tiles and it's so much easier, never looks dirty.

I had a neighbour who put it a small shower tray and shower hose just inside the door. So dog would be hosed off between the door and the kitchen floor.

It worked so well I’m thinking of putting one in myself to deal with my husband when he comes home from mountain biking.
