Verdict on this packed lunch?

Dairylea dunker with breadsticks
2 marmite rice cakes
Muller rice
Apple
Grapes
Tomatoes

Banana for break

OK for an 8 year old?

I haven't had chance to go shopping so I have no sandwich stuff. Also no cucumber or carrots etc.

Shall I add some cheese?

Not enough starchy carbs for an 8 year old in my view, mine would be starving!

Thesearmsofmine · 04/12/2019 08:23

Mine would still be hungry. They would need something else, maybe mini cocktail sausages or something,

EskewedBeef · 04/12/2019 08:25

It's absolutely fine. I'd want a bit of cheese with it, but I want a bit of cheese with everything.

Add a chunk of cheddar and maybe one more ricecake to make it a bit more filling?
But as a 'need to go shopping' lunch box its absolutely fine.

RhymingRabbit3 · 04/12/2019 08:27

I think it looks fine but not that filling. Do you have anything bread based or more breadsticks which could be added.

daffydowndilys · 04/12/2019 08:29

I have some of those small wrapped cathedral city cheeses. I also have a go ahead bar which I can add in. She has an after school club so if she doesn't eat it all at lunch she has a snack for later.

You are brave, be prepared for masses of contradictory replies. Looks perfectly reasonable to me but you'll know what your DC will eat.

Purely suggestions: Do you have any sausages or ham? We always have frozen precooked cocktail sausages for the DC to have in their packed lunches with tomatoes which goes down well. Also, stating the obvious, remember a drink. Any oatcakes (I'm Scottish, so apologies if that seems a strange food to give kids, mine eat tons of them)? Any crisps or popcorn or dried fruit in the house? Would a boiled egg be popular ( I love them, my DC hate them)? Do you have a decent corner shop nearby that might have anything suitable?

Autumnfresh · 04/12/2019 08:32

Cold pasta or rice? I’m afraid this looks like a huge snack to me.

Can you collect a pastry from shop in way to school.

mummyduckduck · 04/12/2019 08:40

That looks perfectly fine, and quite similar to what my DD8 has.

Don't stress.

Where's the protein?

Far too much carby processed rubbish in my opinion.
There's far too much fruit, so much sugar.
A bit light on the fruit and veg, but if that's all she will eat. My lot inhale a dustbin sized fruit bowl daily.
My 12 YO couldn't manage all that and he eats a lot.
I send more than that for my 4 YO, and the nursery provides snacks, are you trying to starve her.
What is a Dairylea Dunker anyway?

I think that covers everything. Wink

NerrSnerr · 04/12/2019 09:41

I think it looks fine, send the cheese if you like.

Barbara has what other responses you have to look forward to covered.

MsChatterbox · 04/12/2019 10:38

I would make some kind of pasta. If your cupboards are bare Grated cheese and Tomato puree is a safe bet. Could also do Tuna Mayo. Then select what you want from the picture for added snacks and dessert. Buts just because my son would want more carbs. You know your child and if it will fill them up.

areyouafraidofthedark · 04/12/2019 10:41

Wouldn't fill my 8 year old up. He takes a sandwich/wrap/pasta as his main lunch with some fruit, yoghurt, crisps and a drink. A chocolate treat on a Friday.

NoSauce · 04/12/2019 11:11

For one day? Absolutely fine.

peachgreen · 04/12/2019 11:31

Absolutely fine. It's one day! Don't beat yourself up.

Southmouth · 04/12/2019 12:20

That looks fine to me and something similar I’d give mine, I would however add some chunks of cheese though.

RockinHippy · 04/12/2019 14:28

It's perfectly fine but I'd add a bit more protein, cheese would be good as it's calcium too. There are plenty of carbs in that, there are carbs I
in the banana etc too

charm8ed · 04/12/2019 15:19

It looks ok apart from the dunkers thing.

daffydowndilys · 04/12/2019 22:50

Well she's still alive. Didn't like the muller rice apparently as she didn't expect it to be cold 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Burger and chips tomorrow for school dinner !! 😂😂
