Tea before bed and brushing teeth...

So today's first world problem.
I like to take a cup of tea to bed with me. Or sometimes sugary hot milk (because it seems I'm turning into my grandmother). Especially in this weather it so snuggly and warm.
So do you brush teeth first and risk minty drinks (and undoing all the work of brushing teeth).
Or do you force yourself out of warm snuggly bed to brush teeth?
Or do I make some kind of bedside contraption so I can brush teeth in bed? If so what?
Help.... Grin

I regularly have a warm milk before bed and the ultimate luxury is having it in bed after brushing my teeth. But I don’t do this very often and usually have it downstairs before I go up and change for bed.

(But I’d do it every night if I could)

*Also, say you have your bedtime drink at 10pm, and get up and brush at 8am. That's 10hrs between brushing.

That's no difference between having a cuppa at 10am and then not brushing until the evening at around 8pm...

But nobody would be going OMG BRUSH YOUR TEETH AFTER YOUR MORNING CUPPA OT*

I think the problem with the time duration being overnight, is that when you're asleep you're not producing loads of saliva and your mouth isn't being rinsed out. Whatever sugars are present, just sit there on your teeth causing decay. This is why dentists do not recommend babies and toddlers having anything in a bottle overnight. Sugary drinks at night to much more harm than sugary drinks during the day.

Sorry to derail OP!

I have to get out of bed for a wee before I go to sleep, so I brush after the cup of tea.

I quite often go to bed and watch Tv . I only drink water in bed but do get up final wee and tooth brush . If I have fell asleep before my mouth feels minging in the morning

I usually brush my teeth last and just take a water to bed but have been known to go to bed with a lemsip, my toothbrush and toothpaste and once I've finished the lemsip do a quick brush in bed when I've been ill. Occasionally I'll get back up out of bed once I've been trying to sleep for a while and have a snack and a drink. I don't aways brush after my midnight snack tbh Blush I have insomnia so I do get hungry after lying There for 4-5 hours. when I was pregnant and had HG I could only brush in the middle of the day, as the sickness was worse in the morning and evening, so I used to brush my teeth then at about midday and again at about 6pm and just eat or drink whatever I could manage.

I've got in the terrible habit of not brushing before bed very often... And I often have a brew (with sugar) in bed before going to sleep. Dentist doesn't know this. But my teeth are healthy and there's no problems with them, dentist says nice things at every appointment, so I'm keeping my bedtime tea secret!

I think you're bonkers for having caffeine at bedtime.

Try herbal tea. You get some nice bedtime ones that help you sleep better.

I have no problem sleeping, much more of a problem staying awake!
My mother sometimes takes a coffee up with her... think we're genetically immune to caffeine 😂

I have the answer! Wear your dressing gown over your pjs in bed, so it’s not so hard to leave when you get up to clean your teeth!

greeentopmilk · 04/12/2019 10:13

I brush my teeth thoroughly twice a day, over two minutes and really do a good job.

But I wouldn't get out of my warm bed after having a brew I'd just go to sleep. It's
No different than having a brew in the morning and not brushing again till night.

I think generally good care of teeth is more important than the time of day.

Peppermint tea.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 04/12/2019 11:15

Peppermint tea is not tea!!

I also have no issues with caffeine at bedtime. I think twelve years of living off coffee as a teacher has given me a caffeine immunity.

I don't think this is right, I still have to breastfeed toddler at night and overwhelming consensus from dentists was to brush BEFORE milk. They said worst thing to do was brush straight after milk with sugar as you brush it around teeth causing more damage. So if you want to do the right thing you'd have to wait at least 20 mins minimum.*
That's also correct. You produce more saliva with enzymes in it when you eat and drink so you don't want to brush those all over the teeth or you will erode the enamel. It's advised to wait 20 mins before brushing.

Camomile tea is naturally anti bacterial so try a cup of that instead

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/12/2019 10:01

Why don't you get in your pyjamas, brush your teeth etc at like 9pm then take your cuppa up to bed with you after you've finished watching I'm a celebrity other tv shows are also available
