£65 for makeup?!

I’m getting married soon, really low key just registry office / meal but figured I’d get my hair & makeup done. I have no bridemaids etc it’s nothing fancy at all but want to feel confident.

I’ve just been messaging a MUA & she’s proved me £65!! £65 for makeup! I am Shock as last time I got my makeup done it was £25-£30 (granted this was probably 3 years ago) and this just seems insane.

Does anybody have makeup tips for the big day as looks like I’m doing my own Grin ?

That's cheap. Cost me £120 and I thought that was pretty average.

Pinkyyy · 03/12/2019 22:11

Don't tell them it's your wedding makeup. For some reason majority of MUAs charge double for brides.

Fuckenstein · 03/12/2019 22:11

That's expensive, I guess you mentioned the W word?!

If you have a big department store near you, you could get it done on one of their counters.

@Hereyougosandwiches I think 120 is very expensive, perhaps it depends where you live.

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 22:13

I think I paid that just for a trial (which I hated). Most near me are over £100

Slat3 · 03/12/2019 22:21

My wedding ceremony is costing £130 and the meal less than £300 with Prosecco included so no bloody chance I can justify that on a bit of makeup. I don’t wear makeup daily so it would have been a nice treat I’d probably have paid £35 but nope no more than that.

Yes I did mention W & probably shouldn’t have Crown Grin

Just out of curiosity OP what sort venue is it to be only £300 for meal, sounds amazing and like what I've been looking for

MsChatterbox · 03/12/2019 22:29

I second going to a makeup counter. Then buy the lipstick they used to top up.

WingingIt101 · 03/12/2019 22:32

I think it’s Bobbi brown that do “make overs” where you book in at a specific time then obviously they hope you’ll buy bits. Mac I think also let you book! Like pp says maybe just get the lipstick then to top up through the day! I bought a thing of my wedding lipstick and love it, takes me back to the wedding whenever I wear it!

That's absolutely fine but no decent MUA would agree to do wedding make up for £35; it simply wouldn't be worth their time.

SheChoseDown · 04/12/2019 14:17

Is she including time for a session before the wedding day to try different styles and agree on a look? Is she travelling to a venue away from her home?

Elbeagle · 04/12/2019 14:21

I’m a bridesmaid next year and my make up is £65. The bride is paying £135 for hers.

Slat3 · 04/12/2019 16:55

@Starryskye its just a restaurant with immediate family so less than 20 of us.

@Hereyougosandwiches what’s the difference between normal makeup & wedding makeup?

@SheChoseDown nope no tester, & she would have been travelling to my house because I wanted mobile.

I have found a MUA at a local salon for £30 inc lashes. I didn’t mention the W as it’s not relevant, I won’t want anything fancy. So fingers crossed I feel confident & look nice!

I’m Shock at the prices some people are paying but it’s totally your money & choice. I’m having it really low key & that suits us. Wish me luck Flowers

The price isn't suprising, but it is a lot especially for a low key wedding. Do you have any friends that can help out? For my friend's wedding we went shopping and tried loads, she picked some stuff and I did her make up on the day, and the make up was part of her wedding present. She loves still having it to wear on special occasions etc, and it was still cheaper than having it done professionally. If not, as others have said counters could be a good idea, but some are better than others. Alternatively if you ask on social media there might be someone doing beauty at college who wants to add wedding looks to their portfolio.
