Trapped nerve (?) in back of neck - what to do short term?

Oh FFS. DH is away for work - left this morning, back tomorrow afternoon. I’m home alone with our twins (3, both autistic, very hard for me to take them out alone at the best of times).

I’ve had upper back problems since they were babies which occasionally flares up and needs strong anti inflammatories and a few days of diazepam.

I’ve done something to my neck - no idea how, slept funny I guess? The pain is in the back of my neck on the left and it hurts to tilt my head back or turn my head right. It’s the kind of pain that makes you feel sick and gives you a headache. I don’t need this at the moment but physically can’t wrangle the twins to the doctor or even the chemists.

I’ve taken some naproxen - is there anything else that will help? Heat or cold, etc? Just need to get through the day and night and can sort it tomorrow.

Under huge stress right now so that’s probably a factor tbh. My body is a wreck!

Oh my god I feel for you - I had a trapped nerve and by god it was worse than childbirth IMO. Have you got any heat packs? I swore by them until I got very strong drugs from the doctor.

This same thing has just happened to me yesterday! I’ve been VERY slowly turning my neck to the point that it hurts and then carefully easing it past that point, that’s made it so I can move my neck a bit more without pain but other than that it goes back to hurting after a few hours. Ice packs and heat are supposed to help

@SuzieBishop when does it end?

Typical really - first time DH has been away overnight for over a year. Grrr. Got an electric heat pad on it now and just stuck an ice pack in the freezer, plus need to find where the hell DH has put the deep heat.

I do have two diclofenac suppositories left over from a surgery which I’ve been saving for an emergency - bloody horrible things but very effective so may have to use one tonight when the naproxen wears off.

I have an amazing osteopath who does manipulation and accupuncture. I saw her weekly to start with when my lower back trapped nerve was really bad. Now I see her every 3 months just to keep everything moving. I don't think there is any other option really.

@Berrylove I was a good 5 Or 6 days or so with the pain but it was made manageable with cocodamol and something else I forget the name of - really strong drugs though and they got me through.
