Not heating/hot water for a week

I'm renting a property and our landlords are known to be very tight, despite renting out another six properties around the area!

Our boiler broke on Thursday afternoon and the estate agents sent a plumber over on Friday afternoon. The plumber said the boiler is broken, he can do a temporary fix but ultimately we need a new boiler and will leave it to the landlord to decide.

The landlord has asked for a temporary fix but because the boiler is so old the parts are tricky to source. It'll be another 2/3 days before the parts arrive and then it'll be the fourth day probably when the boiler is temporary fixed.

That'll be over a week, is there anything I can do? Our flat is so cold & we have a five year old (DSD) who we share 50/50. They haven't offered any heaters or reduction of rent.

You landlord has a responsibility to service and repair the boiler. This is specifically covered in the landlord and tenant act as far as I’m aware.
Do you have a letting agent or are all repairs dealt with directly through the landlord? If the repairs aren’t carried out you should contact your local council environmental health department. You should continue to pay your rent during this time to avoid being in breach of your tenancy agreement.

The boiler did have a service about 5 months ago but this has completely broken and the plumber advised a new boiler.

It's looking around four days for a new one. It's freezing

Do you have an immersion and could you request electric heaters? Unfortunately boiler repairs are not always immediate, especially in winter.

A week is, unfortunately, totally reasonable for a boiler repair

Yes, but LL should be offering some emergency heating, reduction in rent, contribution to increased electricity bills etc., he can't just leave it, especially in such cold weather.

OP doesnt say if she's asked for heaters etc. I wouldn't ask because I have them already. Reduction in rent is unreasonable as is contribution to electric bills. At this time of year a week is really quite quick, we waited closer to 3 weeks in January for a repair.

Electric blankets saved me in the same situation.
