I really want an electric cheese grater

We go through so much grated cheese in our house and I'm fed up of grating it. The bags of pre-grated cheese are vile so we don't buy those.

Does anyone have an electric grater they could recommend? I'd prefer a standing one rather than those handheld ones.

I didn't know such a thing existed but just checking do you have a food processor? (as you can use the grating attachment on that (

Strokethefurrywall · 02/12/2019 17:21

AllStarBySmashMouth · 02/12/2019 17:24

If there's one thing in the world I hate doing it's grating cheese.

isitaline97 · 02/12/2019 17:29

I used one before when making loads of cheese pies for a family do! It was grate 🤣🤣 no really it was really handy and literally got through the blocks within seconds. Can't remember the brand tho I'm afraid! But it was a standing one. Bits of cleaning up afterwards but nothing mega and well worth it if grating a lot of cheese!

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/12/2019 17:29

I use the food processor.

Lunafortheloveogod · 02/12/2019 17:30

There are electric graters.. they’re like fecking hens teeth! DGM had one that sadly died it was bloody amazing, it had all the different bits like the sides on a grater and you popped a plate in front of it where the stuff came out..

If I ever find them again I’m buying 20 of the buggers so I never have to live through grating my finger agains. Hers lived about 5 years and just died one day half way through a carrot n never came back on, not the fuse, no smokey smell, absolutely no sign of a problem.

www.ebay.co.uk/c/13450518
Seems to be quite a few available from the US.

lolaflores · 02/12/2019 18:28

I'm afraid it would shred my nerves with the noise....
I promise I wont come back

Honestly.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/12/2019 18:29

Electric? I’ve seen the hand grind ones but they just clog up and get jammed. I love cheese though...

Sometimes I use my food processor as it has a grater attachment. In fact I was just debating using it tonight even though I only need cheese for pasta bake.

The downside to using the fokd processor is there is so much washing up compared to the grater.

Xiaoxiong · 02/12/2019 20:50

I often buy a 1kg block of cheese and grate it all in the food processor, divide it into 250g bags and freeze the ones I'm not using. Then I only have to wash the food processor up once.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/12/2019 15:31

Well I got one already! I was browsing Facebook marketplace and spotted a brand new in box Tefal Fresh Express for £25! So I messaged the seller to ask if they still had it and I drove straight over there and bought it Xmas Grin

Only problem is, we have a full tub of cheese at the moment so I don't need to grate any yet Xmas Sad

Genuinely surprises me how many people haven’t got dishwashers in this country.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/12/2019 16:06

Same here Fluffy, I wouldn't be without mine! Dh's cousin moved into a rental with her husband and son, that had an integrated dishwasher and they never used it because "It's only the 3 of us so it's pointless." We have one and use it all the time with 3 of us, we can fill it in a day! Once you've got a couple of pans etc in there, there's not much room left.

Roselilly36 · 03/12/2019 16:12

Sounds a great idea, I will be on the look out for one, it’s a faff to get the food processor out just for grating cheese.

Dishwashers are essential IMHO,, ours is often on a couple of times a day. I think we are on dishwasher number 4 now.

MissMooMoo · 03/12/2019 16:14

I use The attachment on my food processor to grate the cheese. Food processor goes into the dishwasher.
Job done.

Chocolateteabag · 03/12/2019 16:15

I have a Tefal fresh express OP!

It was from Lakeland but now discontinued -£25 is a bargain

I use mine to do cheese - I grate a block at a time and keep it in a zip loc or freeze some if I need to

It's also good for grating carrots to hide in Bolognaise or doing lots of onions
DH slices potatoes with it for dauphinois or on top of hot pots

Cardy24 · 03/12/2019 16:55

My parents were given one as a wedding present, it still works, they've been married nearly 60 years.
