Emergency dentist appointment

Can anyone tell me the longest time an emergency dental appointment can last please.

Do you mean how long you’re in the chair for

Or how long you have to wait for the appointment

Dentures101 · 01/12/2019 18:14

The longest they allow in the chair. I'm hoping to get one tomorrow as my previous dentist butchered my tooth and I'm in incredible pain. Will probably need to be removed. But I also Want them to look at another tooth that hurts. Just wandered if time would allow it?

They will look at immediate problem then make a further appointment for further treatment and review. Unlikely the second tooth would be dealt with tomorrow.

An emergency appointment takes as long as it takes, but it is only for the immediate problem, not a general check up.

Dentures101 · 01/12/2019 18:24

Ok thank you. How long do you think it would take to remove a molar

OP posts:
Pipandmum · 01/12/2019 18:24

I think it lasts as long as needed.

Dentures101 · 01/12/2019 18:33

Ok thank you

It very much depends if it's your dentist or a random dentist

Emergency appointments will only normally deal with the acute problem so only one tooth. They will take as long as it takes to deal with that problem. They might give you advice on the other tooth but they will only treat one

Dentures101 · 01/12/2019 21:16

I have a sinus infection that seems to have started yesterday. I'm not on medication. Do you think they will still extract the tooth? Or wait for the infection to be gone?

A problematic molar extraction could take an hour or more IIRC. One of mine my regular dentist tried and failed and I had to be referred to a specialist oral surgeon who knows more advanced techniques.

Your dentist might prescribe antibiotics for the infection and tell you to come back after completing them for the extraction. Or they might not. It'll be their clinical judgement.

Hope you get seen soon, toothache is the worst.

Thank you. This has been going on for months. My original dentist cancelled my appointment 8 times! 8 frickin times. Ended up going to emergency dentist on a Sunday. Who unbeknown to me drilled half my tooth off! And put a tempoy filling in but covered the whole tooth. Went back to get an appointment with my dentist and they took me off thebook for not going to an appointment that they made but didn't tell me about!!!

So thought ok will try our local private dentist. Who said ok but I cant do anything today you need and OPG scan or something to see the roots. But we don't do that. Sent me to an NHS dentist who charged £40! For the scan. I knew my other teeth were bad and the original dentists wanted to pull them. 6 teeth! And the private dentist said oh no we can do root canals and a couple of fillings. Ok I thought! Do you have paymanet plans...no. ok how much? One tooth is £400!!!!

So I said no sorry I can't do that. Can you take the temporary filling tooth out though and I will pay for that. I'm desperate. No she said I ran out of time because I examined you. Make another appointment!

So I decided I'm going to go to the NHS dentist where I had the scan done. But then the kids and I got this nasty virus which has been going on for weeks! I had just finished antibiotics for a sinus infection. Then got the virus. Virus left a couple of days ago and now I have another bloody sinus infection! Which is making my upper teeth hurt which will probably end up getting pulled anyway!
And still couldn't get the original tooth sorted. I have been so unlcuky. 7 months!! And it should be free but they never sent me my maternity exemption card! I'm feeling very sorry for myself right now.

Do you think they might prescribe antibiotics then I can be referred to a specialist and just have them all out at the same time? I don't want to lose my teeth but I'm fed up ith being ill.

If there's swelling then yes

If there's no swelling then they shouldn't really

A problematic molar shouldn't take over an hour. And there's no reason to suggest your tooth is problematic. Unless there's obviously complicated extractions you should have your teeth out with your regular dentist.
There's no reason they can't do an extraction when you have a sinus problem.

The original dentist was crap to cancel 8 times, however the other dentists have done nothing wrong. Why didn't you make am appointment to have it removed with the private dentist?

Dentures101 · 01/12/2019 23:11

I asked to. I went there to have the tooth removed and after she rattled on and charged me for the appointment she then said she didn't have time! And to book another appointment. I'm not made of money. I had the money to have the extraction as promised and she then tried to get me to agree to root canals etc which I kept saying I couldn't afford. By the time she stopped trying to sell to me she ran out of time. Then we got this nasty virus and I don't want to waste more time at the private dentist as she is clearly more interested in what she can get me to agree to than actually helping. I called to ask to go ahead as I'm fed up but with a payment plan. But they don't do them! So they said ok we understand and hung up so never got to arrange the extraction properly and will now need to go to the other NHS dentist. I also can't afford the price of the private really.

There's no swelling either. Just need to take it out as it's painful then make an appointment to decide what to do about the others

Well I'm a happy bunny. I had a root canal done and going back for the filling in 2 weeks time. Decided to go private with this one as they are much more affordable. Going back after to get a treatment plan sorted. And he was really nice too so I'm not worrying any more. He managed to do it in 25 minutes plus 15 for the LA. Quite amazing
