What food would you do at a Christmas party?

We’re hosting a few Christmas parties at home over the next few weeks - one will just be adults, the other will have four children present including aged 1 and 3.

What food would you do? I like to do something in between just a few nibbles and a full dinner, but things people can eat without a proper sit down knife and fork job. Before I’ve done homemade sausage rolls, smoked salmon blinis, a terrine (less easy to eat but it’s yummy), lots of nice cheese, crackers and grapes, other smaller snacks.... I’ll have the day to prepare but I’m not a massively confident cook so nothing too tricky! It would be good if I could pre-prepare as much as possible but I’d like the sausage rolls to be hot out of the oven, for example.

Any suggestion for food for the little ones too?

What does everyone else do?

And does anyone do any nice non-alcoholic Christmassy drinks?

Thank you!Smile

The one with the kids, a buffet. Christmassy sandwiches, quiches, sis rolls, crudités, crisps, nuts dip and cheeseboard. With crusty bread.

Adults only? A fondue or raclette could be an idea! Or a an Indian buffet. All the samosas, pakora, raita, kebabs, paratha, tikkis. Yum.

I’d do little cones/boxes with nice chicken goujons, and chips for the kids. Or nice hot dogs.

Cheese and meats and bread would be lovely, esp of Camembert and chutney and stuff.

Or a big pot of chilli, jacket potatoes, salad etc?

Or kick the ass out of M&S party food. Esp little Yorkshire’s with roast beef and mini Brie parcels. I’d love all that.

Or a couple of joints of meat.. pork/beef, rolls, salad, nice gravy, stuffing etc.

Gah that’s made me starving now:

Aldi have very nice looking party food nibble type things.

Yes Camembert would be good - admit I don’t think of that because I don’t like it myself! But will do that along with a big crusty roll. Also maybe some salamis and other cured meats?

Quiche is a good idea! Only I haven’t made one before... any suggestions for festive recipes? Can I make one and then re-heat it?

I’d rather make stuff homemade rather than buy from M&S/Aldi - I’m usually not very confident with cooking but I’ve really enjoyed cooking small bits for parties like this Smile And at least if one thing goes wrong there will be lots else to eat!

I'd do old-school buffet.

Sausage rolls
Vol-au-vents
Cocktail sausages
Cheese & pineapple on sticks
Crudités
Ham
Buttered sliced french stick
Chicken nuggets/goujons
Prawns in shells
Sandwich triangles
Crisps
Crackers
Cheese

Yes maybe just some chicken goujons, though I guess not for the one year old. Maybe I could just ask the mum what she usually eats and she might just bring stuff for her I guess
