Help! How to steam Christmas pudding

So I’m making Christmas pud for the first time and am stressed before I even start. Having bought Lakeland lidded plastic Pudding bowls, I have no idea how to actually use them.

Can they go straight into a big pan in some water to boil or will the plastic melt?! Do I need to stand them on something and if so what?!

Thanks so much!

I just checked the Lakeland website - lidded plastic pudding bowls - and it says fine for pans, microwave and I think steamer - have a look. But looks as if 100% fine to put in a big pan with boiling water halfway up the sides - preferably a lid on the pan - and be sure to keep the water topped up with boiling. Keep the water at a gentle boil, more than a simmer but no need for full boil.
I do mine like this in ceramic bowls with foil lids tied on.

You could stand them on an upturned saucer but IMO no need.

I double wrap in tinfoil before I steam them. I'm not sure why not that's what it says in nigella's recipe

I'd wrap them in tinfoil just so no water gets in.

Pudding in bowl/foil in pan, boil kettle, pour water in all around pud til just covered or to lid level, let it boil away, keep topping water up.

I always do mine in the slow cooker. It works fine for either plastic or ceramic containers.

Good luck with your first pudding Axlcat I'm sure it'll be fine
