Mouse in the house

I hear noises in the kitchen, went to see and a mouse ran past. It went back to behind the boiler. I suppose that could be the entry point. If so, there's no way I'd be able to seal it as I can't get there.
What should I do? I'm quite scared at the prospect of mouse traps, but I find poison to be too inhumane. I rent, but I suppose I should try to fix the problem myself before calling the landlord?
Or should I call the landlord on the basis that it may be affecting other flats in the building with the same landlord.

Does nobody have a cat? You need a young one, not a lazy one set in its ways!

Toom - rats are much slower than mice I think. No way could I catch these mice and unfortunately, I think there are loads of them. Since I've actually figured out how to use the snap trap they've killed 3. I've only got 2 traps that work out of the 5 I bought so I wonder how many I could catch if I had more traps. I'll try to buy some more tomorrow.

"Get a plug in electronic mouse repellant device. "

I bought one at the same time as the poison and the snap traps. I then read up about it and apparently it's just like having the radio on for them. They can hear it, but they don't care.

Well I am currently lying awake listening to the patter of tiny feet. It always happens when the weather gets cold.
I guess I will be setting traps tomorrow too. I feel mean, but it has to be done. Sad
Glad you are starting to make progress OP.

Buy the Big Cheese traps, OP. They’re easy to set, quick and it’s very, very rare to get a live one trapped by a foot or tail which does happen with those silver-coloured plastic ones. They don’t seem to lose their spring. (I live in wheat country.)

Constant problem in my house .noticed after we had eaten from a box of biscuits that one had been nibbled...these were on a coffee table in the lounge ! This morning we have 1 dead mouse in a trap there will be more buggers in the house
They can get through a hole the size of a biro ..impossible to find every gap

Our cat frequently brings in young mice and if we're lucky, and she drops them before crunching through their heads and sucking out the brains, we'll chuck a tee-shirt or similar over it, wrap it up, wander down the garden in a dressing gown and let it go in the back field.

Plug in devices were the only thing that worked for me but it was in a rural location in Greece, perhaps urban UK rodents are more savvy and hard core.

I bought 6 new traps today. I was only able to get 3 of them to work though. The only ones for sale in my city centre are cheap ones from Poundland and I find them extremely difficult to set.
I'll have to look at getting better ones.
The landlord has said they'll send pest control people around, but my worry is that they might not do the whole building as I suppose it would be useless just to do my place.
My food cupboard is up on the wall and they haven't been able to access it at all yet, luckily.

No new catches. One trap just moved around last night. I don't know if they've got wise to them or if it's just random.
