What are you making?

Do you craft and if so, what are you making currently? How did you get into it?

I'm asking out of sheer nosiness really because it's Friday night and I have no plans and am happily sitting here next to dh.

I'm currently making a knitted nativity scene that's been keeping me busy for the last week. I've already made Mary, Joseph and Jesus and hands just started on the manger but I'll have to YouTube how to make loops for the hay because I can't get my head around the written instructions!

I only started knitting a few months ago when my son bought himself a book (Something by Usborne that came with some yarn, stuffing, needles and buttons and step-by-step instructions from how to cast on through to how to cast off). He got fed up within a day or two but I got right into it!

Anyway, what are you making?

I did a knitted Nativity last year, from the Jean Greenhow pattern, and one poor little shepherd still needs one arm!
I am currently knitting some proper traditional white, lacy, bow and flower trimmed matinee coats, bonnets and bootees for a colleague's new granddaughter. It's been ages since anyone wanted traditional white baby things, so I am going to town on the trimming Grin and really enjoying it.
I am planning some "leafy blinders" chocolate orange covers for Xmas too.

Engraving old jam jars with a Dremel labeling up for a spice rack.

Those are lovely! I’ve a fair few things on the go for a craft fair including reusable wipes, scrunchie and lots of baby hats.

@PomBearWithAnOFRS the baby things sound lovely. I can imagine they'll be treasured even after the baby's grown out of them - I still have the hat my neighbour made for dc2 7+ years ago. My brother had a baby a few months ago but his wife doesn't like knitted clothes because she is allergic to wool so I didn't get the chance to make anything.

@AliceLittle that sounds interesting. Are you doing detailed designs on the glass as well or just the words?

Thank you @student26. I hope your craft fair goes well. Are those reusable wipes an alternative to baby wipes or a bit like cloths? I keep meaning to get something like that because we use far too many disposable baby wipes in our house and our dishcloths, that I only use to wipe surfaces with rather than washing up, only last 5 minutes before they're full of holes.

Just finished knitting Santa’s Washing line and thinking of starting an elf one by adapting the pattern and using green and yellow .
Fiddly but fun .

I make button bouquets. Makes your hands ache but I love it!

MashedSpud · 30/11/2019 02:43

I’m crocheting a Santa then will start a needle felted cat.

TheElfFellOffTheShelf · 30/11/2019 09:38

@Trumpton I love that washing line!
@Tillygetsit what are button bouquets?
@MashedSpud I went to a craft fair a few years ago and watched someone making felt animals and they were so realistic.

I made a Santa finger puppet a while ago and intended on making a Rudolph to go with it but never got around to it. It's a bit too big for my finger though. I really ought to start making practical things such as jumpers etc but would probably get bored part way through and never finish it.

A knitted patchwork blanket, it’s going in a box with popcorn and a dvd as a movie night kit for DS.

TheElfFellOffTheShelf · 30/11/2019 09:59

That sounds great @CasparMum and such a personal gift that your ds will appreciate.
