Does everyone get sensory overload?

Just wondering if everyone experiences this in the same way. If both dc are jabbering at me non-stop and in particular if one is crying/shrieking and the other just carries on yakking oblivious, i really struggle. I feel like i need to scream and cry, i just have to cover my ears and go and sit in a darkened room for a while. Yesterday dd2 (4) was overtired and dd1 was winding her up and it was a shriekfest for about 10 minutes solid. I really couldn't cope, i ended up yelling at them both and going to sit in my bedroom to calm down. Does everyone get this, and how do you make the kids understand how awful it is without totally overreacting like i do?

Yeah I do.

Yeah I do. I have 3DC, and my middle one talks noooon stop, and hasn't quite developed the skill to recognise when it is not a good time to tell a ridiculously rambling story at the same time my youngest is crying about something or other and my eldest is throwing a strop. I KNOW the sensory overload is the strop and the crying, but it's the talking talking talking is what short circuits my system!

That happens with me too. I get touched out by the DCs too. I like a good hug, but not when they're mithering around.

I struggle with changing at swimming. The humidity, echo, and closed spaces tip me into claustrophobia easily. I can struggle with background noise anyway and had auditory processing issues identified in my early 20s. I now use earplugs on nights out as booming music is so joyless.

DS has a range of different sensory issues, noise, clothing, visual stress, food. I don't feel his world, but I can understand why he struggles.
