And I am a little alarmed
One adult, 2 children. I mainly work from home. I really feel the cold so I do have heating on a fair bit.

£2339 since 2/12/17!

How does that compare with others?

Just under £100 a month then? For gas and electric? We pay £95 a month for both - in a smallish three bed semi. We have a baby so I’m home plenty, not shy about using the heating and cook a fair bit too.

mencken · 29/11/2019 17:05

no comparison possible as we've no idea what your fuel is, what your tariff is, what your insulation is.

Doesn't seem too far above average if you are at home a lot with the heating on. When did you last do a comparision?

what are your unit rates and standing charges? are you on a fix?

fuel costs go up about 10% a year, making a mockery of official inflation figures. You are doing well if you can keep the bill stable. Remember that the OFGEM savings model is a lie as it compares the expensive variable tariff to generate 'savings', rather than comparing with what you actually spent previously.

Electricity, gas or oil? Is that all energy?

About £100pm. How big is your house?

Middledistancerunner · 29/11/2019 17:13

I’d say that sounds quite good, depending on your house size.
I have a small three bed semi and we’re about the same.

Winterdaysarehere · 29/11/2019 17:14

2k annually here. And not using central heating much at all!

@GemmeFatale

Just under £100? £194!

OP posts:
StormTreader · 29/11/2019 17:16

Did you mean 2/12/18?

Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:16

Gas and electricity
A large 3 bed ground floor flat

Ah, feeling a bit better now!

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/11/2019 17:17

@Lovemenorca Unless you've got the date wrong in your post, it's about £95 a month. That's not too bad!

Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:17

Yes sorry 2018

OP posts:
Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:18

My mistake

So it’s £194 a month 2018-2019

OP posts:
Teachermaths · 29/11/2019 17:18

Do you mean 18 not 17?

If so that is a lot but if you are home a lot with heating on it will add up. What temperature is your heating on?

Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:21

18.5

OP posts:
ClientListQueen · 29/11/2019 17:22

Just me, 2 bed apartment. I pay around £40pm for gas and electric together

bloodywhitecat · 29/11/2019 17:27

1200L of oil a year (costs us around £550) + £50 a month in electric, big old draughty house, single glazing.

mencken · 29/11/2019 17:29

ah, important typo.

still can't help reduce the bill unless you answer the questions, sorry.

dementedpixie · 29/11/2019 17:32

How often is your heating/hot water on? I have mine on a timer so it's on 6-10ish in the am and 5-10 in the pm - around 19 degrees. Hot water is on a couple of times a day for a couple of hours

dementedpixie · 29/11/2019 17:33

What is your actual usage in kWh rather than in £s? Have you done a price comparison?

GoingToWearPantiesLikeAnElf · 29/11/2019 17:35

You've got me worried now! How often is your heating on?
Mine's on for 2 hours between 6 and 8am and five between 3 and 8PM and I have it on a lot higher than you Blush
Gas cooker's on probably 30-50 minutes a day on gas mark 7 (shit cooker, always has to be two marks higher).

To any money-saving experts following the thread:

Would having heating on manual at lower all the time cost less than twice a day having to heat from scratch as it were?
What number do you have your radiators on at OP?
Would 5 minutes electricity - using a microwave, be considerably less money than having a gas oven on for half an hour and what price difference are we looking at?

CookPassBabtridge · 29/11/2019 17:38

Until recently ours was £266 a month, that was using the dryer every few days and an electric fan heater all the time. We stopped both and now down to £100 a month. 2 bed house 2 adults 2 small kids.

BackforGood · 29/11/2019 17:39

It is considerably more than mine (£122pm) and I have high ceiling (lot of volume to heat each room) and a lot of rooms (3 storey old Victorian house). I also have 3 teens / young adults who are constantly on their devices. I tumble dry a lot.
Every year, when I switch, every supplier says my electricity usage is high. Obviously high enough for people to comment on it time and time again.
So I'd say yours is high. However, if you have the heating on all day every day, for a lot of the year, then that is going to add up

Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:39

Sorry doing dinner so will be later

But it’s on quite a bit during the day, and then off completely 7.30-6am (o get under blankets then!)

Lots of washing etc

OP posts:
Lovemenorca · 29/11/2019 17:40

Very high ceilings and drafty (beautiful!) Victorian conversion

OP posts:
ClientListQueen · 29/11/2019 17:42

Just checked my usage
It says 5kwh electric per day and 6kwh gas
