Getting out of bad sleep habits

Hi,
I have a 10 week old who sleeps relatively well at night and I’m usually able to put him down after his last feed without any problem, sometimes he uses a dummy or sucks my finger to soothe himself. However, in the day he hates being put down for a nap and can only settle in the sling or on me which I’m really struggling with. I’ve read in a few books that I should now be trying to break these bad habits by letting him cry, picking him up to settle then placing back down and repeating. Other things I’ve read encourage being held to sleep at his age. I just don’t know what’s best. Any advice would be great!

Do what you feel comfortable with. Personally I couldn't stand any of mine crying at 10 weeks old unless it was absolutely necessary. DS was an awful sleeper, and has only just started sleeping through (he's nearly 4) so it's not like I just had a good sleeper!

DD was always a good sleeper so I've worried less about letting her grumble a bit more, as I know she can sleep on her own. I still don't let her full on cry though.

A couple of friends did a form of controlled crying with their 2 from 16 weeks and they are now brilliant sleepers and don't seem harmed by it!
