Baby Swollen Bulging Forehead

Sass1981 · 29/11/2019 12:03

My 7 week old baby has a swollen forehead, it seemed to start a few days ago and has been getting worse, took him to docs yesterday and he said he'd never seen anything like it. His head circumference was normal last week and there's no other signs of skull deformities. He has however been very congested lately, could this be swollen sinuses? Has anyone else had this problem?

Did the doc not give any followup activity? Call up your HV or 111 or get yourselves down A&E, head swelling can never be a good thing.

tinatsarina · 29/11/2019 12:26

Get to a and e

Sass1981 · 29/11/2019 12:29

No he just said that because there are no other symptoms that he's not overly worried about it and booked us in for follow up next week

carolina21 · 29/11/2019 12:36

I would call 111 or go to a&e

carolina21 · 29/11/2019 12:36

Hope he is ok good luck but best to be sure

nocluewhattodoo · 29/11/2019 12:38

I'd be taking baby to A&E, you can't risk waiting with a baby that tiny.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/11/2019 12:38

Fucking hell, go to A&E! Your doctor can only judge on what they saw at the time. Situation has changed.

Go to a&e, ideally at a hospital with a decent children department. Better to be safe though it is probably nothing too serious

Whatsmyageagain0 · 29/11/2019 14:12

My friends baby had the same.

Doctors and midwives dismissed it but thankfully my friend kept on at them and it turned out he had (I’m sorry the name escapes me) but it’s where the baby is born with it’s scull fused together rather than with a hole in it.

He went to great Romans street for an op and now he is about & years old and perfect.

I will try and find out the name of it and put it here

HappyHammy · 29/11/2019 16:19

Please take baby to get checked out, hope he is ok. What, do you mean craniosyntosis?

isadoradancing123 · 29/11/2019 16:22

Could be hydrocephalous, i would get baby checked immediately

flapjackfairy · 29/11/2019 16:31

I have a child with hydrocephalous. It is life threatening and can become serious v quickly. You need a scan to rule it out. Go to hosp immediately is my advice. It is hopefully nothing but I would want it checking out properly if I were you. Sorry if I am panicking you ! Other symptoms are vomiting and headaches etc due to pressure on the brain though sometimes symptoms do not show until it becomes critical. Good luck x

OddBoots · 29/11/2019 16:34

I would agree with those saying to take him to an A&E with a children's A&E, even if it does turn out to be nothing no-one would tell you not to have a second opinion for something so unusual, especially in a baby so young.

OddBoots · 30/11/2019 08:10

I hope all is okay today OP. x

OddBoots · 30/11/2019 08:10

NI'm not sure why I put a kiss there, sorry.

peachgreen · 30/11/2019 08:14

Crikey. It's not often I side against doctors on this forum but I can't believe he didn't send you straight to A&E. Hope he's okay OP.

Sass1981 · 02/12/2019 19:35

So after 2 trips to docs and 1 to Hospital we're no further forward, they think it may be caused by a cyst so getting an ultrasound. Hydrocephalous ruled out as no other symptoms and head size normal. Thanks for everyone's advice.

OddBoots · 02/12/2019 19:53

I am glad he has been seen by the hospital and that they don't think it is urgent, hopefully the ultrasound will be soon and it turns out to be something simple and easy to sort (or even something that sorts itself).
