to give kids books to charity shops that are slightly used? So for example a sticker book with a couple of missing stickers and maybe one page that has had stickers stuck on it but loads still to use and do? I’m having a clear out and we have loads of these but I don’t know if it’s bad form and i should just him them. Which would seem a terrible waste as I’m assuming sticker books aren’t recyclable.

Would welcome anyone’s thoughts, thanks.

Maybe you could give them to a playgroup or something instead? I don't know if I would buy a half used sticker book from a charity shop but toddler groups or even doctors' waiting rooms might like them?

I give lower quality things to our local swap shop, so people are not paying for it. I don't think a charity shop would sell a semi used sticker book. Jumble sale might be ok as people are only paying 20p or so. Or just pass on to a family with the right age children.

Ok got it. I thought that might be the case, thanks.

Donate them to a toddler group or your local library, they will be gratefully received there I'm sure.

What about your local gp surgery? Mine is always very happy to take magazines & when dd was younger I gave them her comics too

I think it's bad form as charity shop will charge for them. Why not put them on Freecycle and see if anyone wants them

I always work on the 'would I buy it?' when considering what to donate to charity shops. I wouldn't buy an activity book that had been used, no. Good suggestions above re where to donate them to though

I volunteer in an Oxfam bookshop and we don’t sell children’s books that are not in good condition or sticker books with stickers missing - sorry.

As people have already said I’m sure toddler groups or GP surgeries would be happy to take them.

I was once out with my little boy and he fell in love with a dinosaur play clay modelling set thing I. A charity shop. It was one of those box sets that had a little a 5 book with instructions a couple of simple little tools and a set of coloured play clay sticks.... took it to the counter to pay and realised there was no clay in it and when I pointed it out to the guy on the till he shrugged and asked if I still wanted to pay for it.... um no! Honestly I thought it was the height of rudeness, a that some one donated it and b that they put it put for sale. Please don’t put in used sticker books books, it’s insulting, play groups or go surgery is a much nicer idea

My local charity shops sell broken toys, damaged books (think flaps missing, pages missing, ripped) at high prices. It really irritates me as no one is going to buy them so why not just recycle/dispose of them?!

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 16:34

Use your judgement. The charity shops near me will bundle some things, like 10 small items for £1. Some little kid might be pleased to get it for pennies.
