Scam email: Your personal data has been threatened... Help!

I saw a scam email in my junk mail folder. It read, Be sure to read this message. Your personal data has been threatened'.
I did not open it but a quick search showed it is a threat to expose a split-screen video of me masturbating/ pornography site material I was doing this to, to my contacts if I don't sent Bitcoin.
This is not a concern as I do not visit such sites.
As a precaution though - in case my PC has been compromised or corrupted - I ran a Windows Offline Scan (not ever done this before) as this apparently is able to pick up more threats.
MY concern is that when the computer rebooted and I put in my usual password in to get into my system, there was a notification (where I get usual Microsoft messages informing of updates etc, so legit, I would think) that said my Microsoft password had recently been changed. I didn't change anything! I can also look into my hotmail email account with my usual so I am wondering what on earth is going on...
I have no idea if my PC has been hacked and if I can use it with peace of mind to make purchases etc. I am not well and could do without this. I would really appreciate any help or advice. I saw sites with instructions (beyond my technical capabilities) about removing this ransomware/ spyware but don't know if these are a scam in themselves. The PC now seems to be running more slowly.

So weird, OP - I have literally just got the same email! I had a minor panic when I opened it but have done some googling and came across this article in the Guardian:

(Hope that link works). Looks like it’s a spam email and there’s nothing to worry about.

Mrsmadevans I wasn't so bothered as I know I've not visited porn sites, but it's the change of password notification - when I've not changed any passwords - that has unsettled me. So, I'n not worried about extortion but I am worried the system has been hacked and is vulnerable. I have to make purchases and use online banking...

QuietlyFuming Thanks for the link. It did go straight to my junk folder. I just ran a scan on the PC as a precaution. I was not concerned really until I got a notification (on the screen where legitimate Microsoft messages come up). Like I said, they have no videos of me or such sites as I don't visit them but the notification from Microsoft that I have changed a password is more than a little disconcerting. The message appeared after I did a never-tried-before-offline-scan (I chose to do because it apparently picks viruses etc up more than an online scan is likely to do) and the PC rebooted. I put in my password to get into the PC (all good) but then this Microsoft alert for a password change came up. It's more than a little disconcerting.
I hate bastards who prey on the vulnerable!

QuietlyFuming Did you click on the have I been pwned link in that article. I did and it says my data had been breached, 1 site, no pastes. I don't know whether to change my passwords now, and if I do, if I'm safe to do it on this computer! Ugh!

I see what you mean about the password change, that does seem a bit odd. I’m hoping someone more computer literate than me comes along and can shed some light on that for you.

Thanks QuietlyFuming That's what I'm worried about.
I don't know if you checked out your email on haveibeenpwned.com. I did and there had been a breach. Apparently, they can send you stuff long after a breach / harvest your data long after.
Did you open the dodgy email. It said on that link you sent me not to.
