Should I stay or should I go

Work related. I'm working at a place that I really like, covering a maternity leave. Its been made very clear that the person I'm covering, though lovely, is ineffective at the job. They are very pleased with my work and want me to put strategies in place for when she returns so that she picks up where I've left off. She is due back in January but my contract is until the end of March. They will honour my contract regardless of whether she returns.

I've been offered a new job elsewhere - another maternity contract, pay increase and longer commute. I have accepted it.

I just have a niggle that maybe I should stay at the current place I like very much in the hope that something comes up before March. The place I'm currently at have laid it on thick about how wonderful I am blah blah blah but there's nothing permanent available for me currently.

Am I being a mug for even considering not going to the new job? Am I just falling for the flattery?

Ignore the niggle... If the first company don't have anything permanent then moving on to the second company is the best idea.

I would go too! You sound be competent and do a good job however it's not going to be yours unless she doesn't return.
Keep moving forward.
If they really like your work and things change they'll head hunt you.

Go. Poor staff members are due to poor management. And in the nicest way, they could keep you on if they really wanted to.

Thank you. That's reassuring. I thought the same. The company I'm at is successful and wealthy. If they really wanted me to be on board money would not be a barrier. Thanks for the reassurance.
