Photographer insisting on no shoes...

DD had her playgroup individual photos today. I dressed her up in a little Xmas outfit with matching boots with the intention of her wearing them. The photographer was very insistent that she take them off for the photo but luckily I was there to say otherwise. Is there a particular reason why her shoes needed to be off?. Have I broken some rule?. He seemed very miffed when I said I wanted them on!. The scene was a sleigh that she sat sideways on so they weren’t in the way.

It might be that they want to keep the backdrop cloth and everything sparkly clean so no shoes.
We had a group photo of our 3 dcs done and nursery and they insisted on bare feet. I thought it was odd but actually it looks nicer than if they had all had their different shoes on.

Maybe he wanted to keep his props clean?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/11/2019 17:03

Maybe he wanted to pass thr children off as Hobbits for another project?

was a backdrop used? Was part of it on the floor? Did your daughter have to walk on it to get to the prop? They generally don't want people to use shoes on the backdrop because it gets dirty and expensive to replace.

Agree with PP, it will be to keep the backdrops and white sheets that they normally sit on clean.

On all DS nursery photos he’s got bare feet, and he’s now 13 so it’s not a new thing, I think it looks cute!

Ah ok I suppose that makes sense. We’ve only ever had professional photos taken for agency work and it’s always been for outfits for stores so shoes included so it seemed weird. Luckily I placed her onto the sleigh and took her off and her boots were brand new Blush

My DD had her nursery pics done recently. Like you, I was there on the day. She had on black leggings, a lovely little denim tunic and boots. The photographer didn’t request shoes off but I took her shoes and socks off because I thought it looked nicer. I agree that it could have been because of the backdrop on the floor and keeping props clean.

Yes, it will have been to stop damage to his equipment. Even brand new, shoes can do more damage than bare feet on some things.

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2019 17:32

Of, does your dc model. op? Grin

Elbeagle · 28/11/2019 17:33

Yeah we use the same photographer regularly and she always says no shoes. I assume to protect the equipment (imagine 100’s of grubby shoed children). I generally think it looks better too.

Princesspickle777 · 28/11/2019 17:44

BertrandRussell she’s done a few sessions for next but nothing recent, the last one we did she hated so not wanting to make her do something she doesn’t want to do.
