Babybjorn potty?

Can anyone comment on the Babybjorn potty before I buy it? It's a few times more expensive than the basic ones I've seen (though only £20, so not like £100s or anything!), wonder if it's worth it?

I've never used the baby Bjorn potty but this IKEA potty is only £6 and similar design with a removable middle bit.

I would go for two cheaper potties rather than one expensive one so you can keep one upstairs and one downstairs.

Thanks @NannyR - that's a good point re needing multiples. Do we need one for each of:
(1) bathroom
(2) livingroom
(3) bedroom?

That's a lot of potties Shock

How easy it is to clean.

Is it the right height.

Does it “contain” the wee.

No, I would have one in the bathroom upstairs and one in the downstairs loo if you have one, if not, in the hallway. You should get enough notice that they are about to wee to get them to the bathroom.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/11/2019 13:37

We had 2 identical potties for upstairs and down.

Then it stops any nonsense over wanting to use the blue potty not the yellow one.

AriadneO · 28/11/2019 13:41

Thank you. So you think they need to be identical then? I was hoping to get a cheapie and a Babybjorn to start with, in case there was a clear preference...

I would.

Toddlers are tricky.

I used a chair potty because they are higher and easier to sit on. I had a cheapy normal potty to start with but DC sat on it, it was too low, potty tipped over with DC onboard. But we are a tall family.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/11/2019 13:47

You won’t be using it for long, they will soon be using the normal loo with a step and seat.

Damntheman · 28/11/2019 13:48

My MIL got us one of those. It's on the same level as the IKEA one so to be honest I'd just go with the IKEA one! It's quite okay but nothing super special.

I'd recommend two potties, don't have to be the same potty. One upstairs, one downstairs. I'd also recommend one of those toilet seat inserts in case your child prefers to go straight to toilet, some do!

NannyR · 28/11/2019 13:52

I agree, if you get two different ones, they will develop a preference for one and refuse to use the other, so you'll still end up carrying one up and down the stairs.
As the previous poster said, they only use them for two or three months at the most before moving onto using the toilet so I wouldn't spend a lot on potties.
They just need to be comfy and easy to empty and clean.

AriadneO · 28/11/2019 13:59

Wow I hadn't realised it'd be done in 2-3 months. And how long is a toddler likely to use a toilet training seat before that's done too?

OP posts:
NannyR · 28/11/2019 14:06

If they are ready, potty training can be very quick and not that difficult. I hate emptying potties so I get them using the toilet asap. Some kids are happy using the ordinary toilet seat, others prefer the toddler seat, especially if they are quite small.

AriadneO · 28/11/2019 14:11

@NannyR thanks for your continued advice! DD is 19 months and has started saying poo-poo when she is about to go (not consistent - some false positives and false negatives), so I'd like to be ready. We use cloth nappies, and I've heard this can help fast track things. Is there any point in introducing her straight to the toddler seat?

The Ikea one is just as good.
Although neither of mine would use the potty, just wanted to use the toilet!

NannyR · 28/11/2019 14:20

I would use a potty in the early days, especially as she's quite young - it's just easier to have the potty nearby rather than having to run to the toilet, but nothing wrong with getting her used to the toilet - just check that she can actually get herself on and off safely using a step with her being little!

Whattodoabout · 28/11/2019 16:17

I had a Baby Bjorn one but it had a higher back than that one in the picture and I think it cost around £40 at the time. I loved it personally, I appreciated the fact you didn’t have to take the whole potty to the toilet to empty the contents.

Whattodoabout · 28/11/2019 16:18

I had this one, it was well worth the money because I trained all three DC with it.

This is the one I used. The inset comes out and easy to tip contents away and clean.
