I’ve recently taken to gin. I particularly like citrus based gin. Marks have a clementine one bit is a gin liqueur. What’s the difference between a gin you’d have with tonic and a liqueur one please?

Gin liqueur is lower in alcohol and has more flavours added to it. I drink mine long with a flavoured tonic or with Prosecco. I would say it's more of a cocktail.

No idea, I'm guessing it will be sweeter and less alcoholic. If you like citrusy gin, have you tried Tanqueray Flora De Sevilla? It's the most glorious bitter orange gin I have tasted.

JorisBonson · 27/11/2019 20:37

Yes this. It's for adding flavour more than adding booze.

Highly recommended the Tanqeray Seville orange gin if you like citrus.

Lidl do a good citrus gin in their Hortus range.

Xpost @Doyouthinktheysaurus - good gin taste!

Tanqueray number 10 is my go to gin, it pairs well with a pink grapefruit tonic.

As others have said, gin liquer is lower in alcohol and sweeter, usually a slightly thicker consistency.
Malfy make beautiful italian Citrus gins, their blood orange is nice but lemon is my favourite.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/11/2019 21:00

Malfy Blood Orange gin is lovely if you like citrus as is their lemon gin (I prefer the latter).

If you're after something unusual I'd also recommend Slingsby Rhubarb Gin and Harrogate Tipple Blueberry or Gooseberry gin in that they are quite sharp fruit gins, so not dissimilar to citrus gins in that respect.

The liqueur is sweeter and would usually be drunk without a mixer in sherry glass/shot glass portions or added (about 15ml) to a fizzy white wine to flavour it (a bit like a Kir Royale which is crème de cassis - black curent liqueur with champagne).

That said I'd avoid putting a gin liqueur in fizz as I think it would be too overpowering (much better fruit liqueurs like Chambord, Pasoa etc).

There's a fair bit of cross posting here!

Obviously a few of us share the same gin profiles!!!

Thanks all and yes, I love the Seville Orange gin by tanquery.

The marks clementine looks gorgeous but I am just not sure if I would drink it.

Thanks for the other recommendations will definitely look at those.

Aldi do a lovely seville orange and lime gin.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/11/2019 21:33

DeRigueur I want all the Malfy gins, because I like fruity full strength ones and the bottle looks so pretty, but I can't justify the cost at the moment and my cupboard of other gins is looking quite full.

I also got a Beefeater blood orange gin on offer and it is very orangey. I think I like it, but I'm not sure how gin-like it remains - I like my gin to still taste like gin and don't really like all the sweet liqueury ones.
