Sodding plantar fasciitis

So sick of it. Week 4 now.

I'm using ice and those spiky roller balls to stimulate blood flow to the area and it's still not improving.

The pain is up both sides of my heel now.

Anyone got a treatment?

I had mine for about five years and I didn't realise it was a condition until I read a thread on mumsnet. My doctor never had a clue either and I just got on with it. I had no choice I was on my feet all day with my job but ohh it was agony especially first thing in the morning.
I tried the excersises and bags off peas etc which helped a bit but the only thing that got rid was rest..I changed jobs where I was sitting down all day and I woke up one morning and it was gone in 1 foot then I both! Now I can walk long distances and I have no.pain but I still get the odd twinge now and again. I'm careful what I wear though on my feet these days

I also threw a lot of things at mine so don’t know what sorted it, but one thing I did try which I haven’t seen mentioned so far is Vitamin D supplements. No idea if that’s what worked, but can’t hurt.

nailslikeknives · 27/11/2019 22:16

Pro11 3/4 insoles really helped me. I had planta for a yr before finding these.
I wear them in all my shoes/boots/slippers etc

I also have a roller, do lots of stretches etc.

Good luck finding something that suits you

I'll investigate.

Also does the pain move around for you?

I'll ice my heel so then the arch of my foot hurts and vice versa. 🙄

I had acupuncture for mine. I think I had about 6 sessions, it really did help. That was years ago (about 8?) and it’s never come back.

Excitablemuch · 28/11/2019 20:19

Mine came on during and after pregnancy. Found insoles (just got some from amazon) good and the god awful rolling on a spiky ball. It went gradually as I lost baby weight - I gained 3.5 stone and have lost 3 so far!

blueirises · 28/11/2019 22:33

One thing nobody ever mentions I don't think, which I'm sure helped when I had PF a few years ago, is don't sleep on your front. Your foot points the wrong way all night.
I did all the exercises and frozen bottle rolling, and I still wear orthotics. The steroid injection helped enormously. But I think it might have come back if i'd gone on mostly sleeping on my front.

lljkk · 29/11/2019 05:41

I can't sleep on my back (at all, just do not fall asleep that way) & I can't sleep on my sides due to shoulder issues. So screwed basically, choose the body part to hurt.

PigOnStilts · 29/11/2019 06:38

Tbh I don't think sleeping on the back would have any bearing as your feet are still put into a dorsiflexion position by the weight of the sheets.

PenelopeFlintstone · 29/11/2019 06:44

Mine is also gone.
I had orthotics and did stretches etc, but I think what helped most was feeling the arch of my foot and the tendon that’s there. I could feel how tight the band was and it all made sense. Massaging that gently is what fixed me, I think.
Also leaning against a wall to stretch my Achilles tendons and chucking out all my cheap ballet flats.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/11/2019 07:57

I had this, one foot only but could barely walk.

I self-diagnosed after googling - had never heard of PF - then went and bought arch supports from Boots - Scholl, about £25. Wore them on both feet for several weeks. Worked very well, haven't had a recurrence and that was several years ago.
Two BiLs had the same and had very expensive made to measure supports made, which also worked, but no better than my much cheaper ones.

Not saying this will work for everyone but certainly did for me.

Wotrewelookinat · 30/11/2019 13:44

Thinking about this again, I have recently lost over one stone to get me into a healthy BMI and my feet have been so much better.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/11/2019 13:48

Happy Feet insoles. They have a liquid gel in them that makes you feel a bit like you are walking on a water bed, but they do help a lot. I bought some to wear round DisneyWorld in the summer and my feet were the most comfortable they have been for a long time.

It is shocking that a GP had not heard of it. Honestly, about a million people in the UK have it! (based on the stats on the Heelease guy's website). I have done most of the things on this thread. The most useful were small spiky massage balls, latex heel inserts, Hotter shoes, Crocs, Decathlon running trainers (the latter are pleasingly cheap too), Pilates but most of all some physio to improve my gait so I wasn't putting so much weight on my heels.

I found Heelease quite helpful for pain but it doesn't actually fix the problem.

Ime it takes months to go away and you have to remain vigilant. I have had 3 bouts over an approx. 15 year period.

BestIsWest · 30/11/2019 14:04

Also have it in one foot. Bloody agony. Hip pain in the other leg so waddling like a duck at the moment.
Been doing Bob and Brad stretches (you tube) before getting out of bed which have helped.
