My 12 year old came up to me and asked if she could tutor young children after school?

I would ask her
Why does she want to tutor and what does she want to tutor in?

What special skills does she have in the area that makes her think the children would benefit from her tutoring?
My DD started as a youth assistant in the junior section of her choir and running a year 7/8 Drama club in year 10 of school. She is Grade 6 ( distinction) in both singing and acting, has taken part in national performances and wants pursue musical theatre as her career. So she has measurably excellent skills and may like to teach in the future so this is giving her some experience of what teaching is like.

It's unlikely that a parent would trust someone that young with tutoring, but there's other stuff that could be done. I'm a Brownie leader and wiuld happily take a sensible 12yo Guide as a "Guide Helper" in my Brownies. They help with activities, setting out equipment, run games, etc and are a really useful asset to the group. No idea whether Scouting does similar at that age.

I'd ask if there was anything as school that she could support with. I used to help the year below with maths and English after school.

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely convinced a 12 year old has the knowledge or skills to be a tutor.

A helper in a sport club under the direction of qualified coaches, absolutely.
A helper in brownies/rainbows, absolutely.
A reading buddy/play buddy as part of a school club, absolutely.

But not a tutor.

We've used older students as mentors to younger students, but they are 16-18 and we train them for specific things.

I'd find alternative opportunities for her to help with younger children that's under the direction of other adults.
