If you were booked in to babysit how long would you give for the door to be opened?

Is 15 minutes enough? I’ve rang the bell and text it’s pouring rain and there’s a bus due home.

I’d ring the people I was babysitting for first.

BikeRunSki · 27/11/2019 13:46

But yes, all bring well they should have opened the door by now.

Hiphopopotamus · 27/11/2019 13:47

Wait you’ve been standing outside their door for 15 minutes? Is this someone you’ve sat for before?

Being well, not bring well.

Breathmiller · 27/11/2019 13:48

Can you try the door? Open it tentatively shouting out my gran's favourite "Coooeee- just me"

BeanBag7 · 27/11/2019 13:48

Have you phoned them as well as text? I would probably leave if you are going to miss the next bus.

MummytoCSJH · 27/11/2019 13:49

I'd wait a bit longer. It's not like it's midnight and that would be the last bus home. Call them.

EachandEveryone · 27/11/2019 13:49

No answer from phone. It’s my only day off work I did it so the mum could have afew hours to herself very colicky baby. I’m slowly walking to the supermarket. I’ve left a message to let me know they are ok.

I’ve sat afew times before and she was really happy to find someone as he’s very much a pfb. It’s not about the money I don’t mind giving her a break.

OP posts:
gingergittable · 27/11/2019 13:52

I'd wait 10 tops.

Caspianberg · 27/11/2019 13:58

5 mins wait at door max. If they know your arriving they should be answering door within a few minutes, if not replying to message straight away.

JustHereWithPopcorn · 27/11/2019 13:59

You're very decent even waiting 15 minutes I would have left 10 minutes ago

EachandEveryone · 27/11/2019 14:01

I thought they might be asleep usually she would text before hand when I’m leaving. She did look at her WhatsApp maybe she forgot it was this afternoon

Oh blimey, if it were a mate, I’d probably sit on their doorstep for 30 mins! I’d be worried / think they’d just been caught up.

EachandEveryone · 27/11/2019 14:28

No mate it’s a paid thing. It’s ok she’s gone out shopping I’m just glad she’s getting out with her.

OP posts:
gingergittable · 27/11/2019 14:44

She needs to pay you a little for your time and trouble. I'd also never be babysitting for them again. Don't let people take the piss out of you.

SleepwalkingThroughLife · 27/11/2019 16:28

So you got the bus there in the pouring rain, waited at least 15 mins, after texting and calling and she's 'gone shopping'? And its your only day off?

Has she expressed any apology?

That sort of shit pisses me off.

EachandEveryone · 27/11/2019 17:10

Yes she said sorry.

OP posts:
gingergittable · 27/11/2019 17:41

Did she give you any money?

gingergittable · 27/11/2019 17:42

I would have expected the pay for at least the travel time I'd wasted. Most of my ex bosses would have paid me what I would have earned though. I certainly would if I went out and forgot.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 27/11/2019 17:44

I would never ever babysit for her again. Completely unacceptable to treat you like that.

SleepwalkingThroughLife · 27/11/2019 20:52

What did it cost you in bus fare and time?

SandraOhshair · 27/11/2019 21:55

That's a terrible way for this person to treat you. I bet they changed their mind and rather than tell you, have gone out instead.

Some people are just shits.
