Children's tights

purpleme12 · 27/11/2019 09:54

My child is always complaining her tights keep falling down
And forever adjusting herself and pulling them up at the minute

I don't understand why this always happens and what to do to stop her complaining

Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there some magic shop that doesn't do this??

Jojo do tights in 4-5:

I do find that they go bobbly quickly though.

PhilomenaButterfly · 27/11/2019 14:40

alienm the primary school DD went to didn't allow this unless you were Muslim.

purpleme12 · 27/11/2019 14:52

I don't care about bobbly I just care about them slipping down. Are jojomaman ones that stay up on thin girls?

I second John Lewis - or Waitrose if you have a big one. M and Co also not bad. Sainsbury's are ok too, seem to be quite long for the age range.

Next seem good at first but go baggy and saggy very quickly in my experience.

Dd doesn't like M &S because the don't have a shaped heel, it's just a tube, so she finds them baggy round the ankles.

Falke are fantastic, but at that price they ought to be.

This is where I buy my daughter’s tights from. She wears them every day and never complains about them (she would if they fell down, she isn’t stoic).

purpleme12 · 27/11/2019 15:10

@Whathappenedtothelego yes those ones are one of the shops that miss out sizes

It depends on the tights.
I find ones that are too short in the legs tend to pull down, those that are too wide round the waist tend to fall down.
Unfortunately I seem to be between those two sizes.

Second pair of pants over the top of the tights do help a lot, but I wonder if it would make toileting difficult at school.

Iggly · 27/11/2019 18:44

My dd is incredibly skinny and no a bigger size doesn’t fall down - just have gathering at the leg a bit. But decent ones with good elastic will stay up. I use sainsburys ones. Very good actually!

purpleme12 · 27/11/2019 19:13

It's the Sainsbury's ones we've got so no good

You haven't tried going up a size? Surely that's worth a try?

purpleme12 · 28/11/2019 08:07

Well when you got not a lot of money coupled with a child who has a waist so small that she doesn't fit in most of the leggings/jeans in her size I think it's understandable why I haven't yet.

Another vote for John Lewis. DD has unfeasibly long legs and has no bother with these. I also buy a bigger size. They wash well, tumble dry with no problems and are generally the business. M&S ones were not great when we tried them.

purpleme12 · 28/11/2019 08:39

John Lewis miss out sizes

Get her a pair of suspenders for them

MerLi · 28/11/2019 12:57

My DD refuses to wear trousers for school and so it's tights with dresses all week. We had the same problem with the tights no matter what size they were until I bought her cycle shorts that she wears on top of the thights, never heard her complain since plus it keeps her warm.

purpleme12 · 28/11/2019 13:09

This is something to bear in mind.

I do think it's really strange how this happens. Clearly she's not the only person this happens to do why can't they make tights better?!

Saltdoughmuncher · 28/11/2019 13:13

Put a big pair of pants over them.

I used to dance and we always did this to help them stay up.

EyeDrops · 08/12/2019 16:41

Just coming back to this, on trying a bigger size - it wouldn't be wasting money because at least if they're too big she can grow into them. I've found, as another pp said, that bigger tights on my daughter (aged 4 but in 5-6 clothes) just gather on the legs, they do stay up.
