Sebaceous cyst excision

I have had a sebaceous cyst on my back for nearly 10 years. It was removed once when it was badly infected several times but came back because I think it was removed poorly. I had it removed again at my GP surgery on Saturday. The operation took about an hour as the doctor said it was huge (5-6cm diameter) and very deeply rooted so it had to be removed in fragments. It was dressed at the surgery and I had to redress it at home a few days later. Got it checked by the nurse and re-dressed again today, she said it looked like it was healing ok but a bit red. However the pain from it has got really unbearable in the last few hours so I have started taking painkillers again for it. Has anyone had similar? Does the pain sound normal?

I haven’t had that exact procedure but that sounds like it could well be infected, OP. Get it seen in the morning.

I had that procedure and barely any pain after the excision (which was a welcome relief after 8 months of it being persistently infected). It was however very painful after I had it lanced the first time and the infection hadn’t cleared. If it hurts a lot I would definitely get it checked as from my experience worsening pain always meant the infection was returning.

I'd get checked out x

I've had this too, I had little pain after removal just relief. You should be having daily dressing changes by the nurse, mention that its painful again.

I've just got up and looked and noticed that there is blood and something yellow that has soaked through the dressing. The yellow could be iodine that the nurse put on yesterday but surely it shouldn't have bled out last night when it was stitched on Saturday? Could the stitches have burst?

Maybe if there's swelling?
You need to get it checked.

A nurse has looked at it, no infection but the middle started to split and bleed so she's put steri strips on it which has helped the pain a bit.
It looks very red and angry, and the stitching is a bit uneven, I think the dr found the wound quite hard to close as they don't normally remove them that large in the surgery. Hopefully it will be better once the stitches are out.
Back on Friday to have dressing changed.
