being called "secret squirrel"

If one colleague says about another "that's typical X - secret squirrel". What would that mean?

('twas said about a colleague the other day and I'm hoping it proves I'm not paranoid and that said colleague has some flaws...)

I would think it meant they weren't sharing information that others might want/need to know. Keeping stuff to themself for their own benefit.

We frequently say stuff at work about secret squirrel - just a catch all phrase for anything not shared with the wider group for whatever reason

I'd think it was better than being called 'Undercover Elephant'

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/11/2019 19:59

It's just a saying about people who keep something secret. It doesn't, by itself, allude to any greater flaws.

PlanDeRaccordement · 26/11/2019 20:06

Its from an old cartoon in the 60s that was shown a lot in the 80s. It’s almost affectionate and jokey type term and means being secretive but in a harmless and amusing way. Like having a secret stash of office supplies because one particular pen or notebook the company buys is your favourite.
Similar to danger mouse or sneakernet.

OK cool that makes sense. I do like this colleague but he does seems to do the whole "information gradient" thing.

i'm just grateful it's not just me that's noticed.

lol undercover elephant!
