Could I fit vinyl flooring in bathroom with absolutely no DIY skills?

I’m trying to save money due to financial difficulties but my bathroom urgently needs new vinyl flooring. A kind relative has given me an off cut which I plan to use. But is it an easy thing to do?

Just find a YouTube video that shows you how to do it.

Yes, it's very easy to cut vinyl sheet flooring. Make sure you have the right tools (a Stanley knife or similar is good, and I found a metal ruler useful as a straight cutting edge.
I laid it in a hallway myself, watched a couple of YouTube videos. For a bathroom, I'd imagine you would want to seal any edges with silicone.

That’s encouraging to read. I think I’m particularly nervous as I’ve got to negotiate round the basin pedestal and the toilet. Cutting out these shapes stresses me out!!

Can you lift the old vinyl and use it as a stencil?

I did this - made a template with newspaper that was the exact shape of the floor, including all the pipes, pedestals etc.
Then taped it to the vinyl in the garden and cut around with a Stanley knife. Worked a treat. As pp said, have a look on YouTube. You'll be fine!

I lifted my old vinyl and cut around the new one on top. It's crap tbh but at least cleaner than the old one

Either use the current one as a template or make a paper template with newspaper and tape.

Take the template to the vinyl and cut it out flat. Think about which way up your template is and which way up your vinyl is.

Practise making say the template for the toilet and sink area., Transfer that onto some newspaper taped together pretending it is the vinyl, just to make sure you are right side up.

It's all to do with whether you flip the vinyl over to mark the reverse. Think it through, watch youtube where they use a template method rather than in situ method. I can fit bathrooms and tile walls but I have to think about vinyl flooring!

It’s easier if you use the self stick tiles 12x12 and you can do a template for the bits with the cuts

DH tried and failed miserably. It was his own fault, I think if he'd have watched YouTube I think he could have done it. As it was he cut his head with the Dremel he was using to cut the board underneath and we ended up in A&E Envy

The December issue of Your Home magazine has an article on laying vinyl flooring yourself, if you want to sneak into your newsagent and read it through...or even buy the magazine.

Hey, saw your post about installing an off cut of vinyl flooring? Do you know what type it is? Does it have one of those click lock systems or is it literally just the sheet of vinyl?

When I installed my kitchen flooring we used one of those click lock system things which was pretty easy. We've also got it in our cupboard under the stairs but that was with sheet vinyl- bit more of a faff though.
Think all we did was find some instructions and then just followed those, think it was this site for the instructions https://lifestyleflooringuk.co.uk/installation-methods and then a YouTube tutorial when I got stuck Blush

The sticky backed tiles might be easier. We’ve just done our bathroom and toilet for £40, easier than dealing with a big sheet of vinyl as you are only doing one bit at a time.
