Blueberries

I’ve got 2kg of blueberries, thanks to the Lidl £1.50 fruit/veg boxes. How would you use them?

I can’t manage to eat 2kg with yoghurt in a few days 😁 Yes I need to make muffins and crumble. Maybe jam... perhaps I could make a cheesecake topping and stick in freezer for now.

Blueberries freeze really well too, so any you can't use just freeze for later.

LittleTopic · 26/11/2019 12:37

I am weirdly jealous of the giant blueberry box. Don’t get a look in around DH Hmm

BuildBuildings · 26/11/2019 12:40

I live berries. I'd just eat them as is! If you're not up for that maybe a crumble?

AdaColeman · 26/11/2019 12:45

Blueberry pie is fab.

Gently simmer with some sugar, and serve warm over vanilla or lemon ice cream.

Freeze any excess.

gingergittable · 26/11/2019 12:47

I live in the blueberry capital of the world! We've got 20 high bush trees (the big ones) and some low bush trees too (tiny, sweeter ones). We get pounds and pounds every year.

We freeze loads. Chuck a handful in porridge and it cools it down quicker too.

Blueberry muffins, jam, blueberry crisp, freeze them in sweetened yogurt to make yogurt bark, blend them and have them at the bottom of a yogurt cup with granola, blueberry and ginger pie, great for smoothies, blueberry ice cream, blueberry cordial.

sergeantmajor · 26/11/2019 13:04

Porridge. Even one or two turn in a lovely colour and taste. Keep a supply in the freezer. Handy for smoothies too.

Damntheman · 26/11/2019 14:15

I'm pretty sure my 6 year old could eat 2 kilos of blueberries in about an hour.. Also jealous of the giant blueberry box!

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 26/11/2019 23:32

Thank you for the ideas! FYI, it’s not a giant blueberry box - it’s 8 punnets. Lidl put loads of different items in these large boxes, for £1.50 and there happened to be 4 punnets in each box! Along with spuds, carrots, nectarines, tomatoes. We had 4 pomegranates in a box the other week amongst the other items - £1.50, I feel the need to repeat this!!!

Blueberry and lemon cake

HoldMyLobster · 27/11/2019 04:15

www.blueberrycouncil.org/ has lots of ideas.

I don't like them all that much and our freezer is full of the buggers.

justilou1 · 27/11/2019 04:19

I probably could eat 2kg of blueberries, but the consequences would be dire! 🥺 Meanwhile, blueberry conserve is DELICIOUS!!! (Make sure to put a little more lemon zest and a little less sugar than the recipe suggests. They’re very sweet as they are.) Also makes for a yummy handmade Christmas present to have up your sleeve. (It’s also delicious plopped into a glass of prosecco for an impromptu cocktail.)

justilou1 · 27/11/2019 04:24

You can also purée them with a little lemon juice (the vitamin c is a natural preservative) put the purée in ice cube containers and freeze them in blocks. Store in ziplock bags for freshness. Then use that in smoothies.

milkysmum · 27/11/2019 07:25

Blueberry gin? Stick a load in a big Kilner Jar, cover in sugar and top up with any cheap gin. Give it a shake every day or so and by Xmas it will be lovely 😊

PrincessaCarrisi · 27/11/2019 07:27

I'm very jealous of your blueberry haul!

hauntedvagina · 27/11/2019 07:31

What is this Lidl £1.50 box? We're getting a Lidl near me soon and I'm terribly excited about it.

wowfudge · 27/11/2019 07:35

I second blueberry gin!

stripeypillowcase · 27/11/2019 07:38

freeze them in portions
add them to porridge, yoghurt, smoothies, ice cream...
bake an apple&blueberry crumble...

OddestSock · 27/11/2019 07:56

My 7 year old would eat them all in one sitting 🤣
