Lack of wisdom teeth

pinkstar01 · 26/11/2019 10:04

I'm 34 and I never grew my wisdom teeth. Was just thinking about how biologically humans have evolved to not need them anymore hence why so many people get them removed. I was curious if there are others like me who never got them at all?

27 and never had them. Perhaps we are more evolved...

PineappleDanish · 26/11/2019 10:10

47 and mine are only "partially erupted" never going to come through properly now!

FaithInfinity · 26/11/2019 10:11

I don’t have any and nor does DH. My lack of wisdom teeth was discovered when I had x-rays aged 13 to start my orthodontic treatment. They did my braces but didn’t have to allow for wisdom teeth to grow in. It’ll be interesting to see if DD has any given that neither parent does! And yes when I said to my dentist I didn’t have any she said ‘Ooh you’re evolved!’ Grin

I’m 31, no wisdom teeth. My younger sibling is the same.

BarbaraStrozzi · 26/11/2019 10:13

X-rays show I only have them in my top jaw. One rather capriciously decided to erupt in my late 40s - the dentist had never seen anything like it. Because it didn't have anything to bite against it kept growing and had to be removed (fortunately straightforwardly).

MiniTheMinx · 26/11/2019 10:13

46 and no sign of having them or ever likely. I feel quite lucky, I know lots of people who have had issues with them.

Mid 30’s and no wisdom teeth. Discovered during xrays whilst a teen. I also like to think it’s because I’m more evolved Grin

fourquenelles · 26/11/2019 10:14
  1. No sign of any wisdom teeth at all.
MelissaCortezsPastry · 26/11/2019 10:15

I have lowers but no uppers, Dh says it is because I am not as smart as him with his 4 Grin but they are not in my gums either as I have had x-rays.

It's a puzzle.

RustyBear · 26/11/2019 10:15

63 and never had them

pinkstar01 · 26/11/2019 10:19

Okay good to know I'm not an anomaly!
I was curious because my younger sister (by 7 years) has them so wondered why mine never came, not that I'm complaining because she had to have hers removed a few years ago!

My recently turned 5 year old was complaining that some of his gum was "hanging off" I thought he was being dramatic but on further inspection he has one massive wisdom tooth that's pushed through his gum on the very back of the bottom row Shock poor guy, no wonder he kept saying his cheek was hurting. He was also running a temp for two nights, I never considered it was teething. Grin

I don't have any wisdom teeth but my DH has his. Very random.

YerAWizardHarry · 26/11/2019 10:27

@tiredmam25 itll be his molars (first adult teeth that dont have a baby tooth equivilent) rather than wisdom teeth, they dont erupt until between 18 and 25 as standard.

ineedaholidaynow · 26/11/2019 10:29

I don't have wisdom teeth and also missing the next set of bottom molars. I was told by the dentist that the missing molars are hereditary (DS is missing an adult front molar, hoping his milk tooth will hang on in there). Not sure about wisdom teeth

icecreamsundae32 · 26/11/2019 10:30

Argh I wish this was me! I had my top two removed in my early 20s and the bottom two are partially erupted at 33 but they've moved my other bottom teeth and I hate it but dentist won't remove just for overcrowding Angry

Lozz22 · 26/11/2019 10:33

I'm 34 and have one partially erupted one. Dentist can't X-ray it to see why it hasn't grown anymore because every time he puts the piece of plastic in my mouth I start gagging and choking which triggers off huge panic attacks. We've tried everything to stop it happening but it still does

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/11/2019 10:35

My dentist said that about 50% of the population don’t develop wisdom teeth; although of that, only about 35% don’t actually have them at all - the other 15% have them beneath the gums but with no space to erupt.

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 26/11/2019 10:39

Mine are there but not erupted (I'm in my 50s).

HelloCanYouHearMe · 26/11/2019 10:46

I only have them on the top and they are partially erupted. Came through when I was pregnant at the age of 34.

They are absolute bastards to reach with the toothbrush and I retch and gag everytime I brush my teeth!

Paddington68 · 26/11/2019 10:51

51 never had them. Had an xray and discovered I don't have them

bluetongue · 26/11/2019 11:01

I only had one but had it removed as it was impacted and under the gum. So easy only having the one removed. The worst part was fasting before surgery Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/11/2019 11:21

I have all my four wisdom teeth, had them for about 30 years now.
They are healthy but difficult to clean ( Hello ) , they are so far back.

DD's had an x-ray that showed hers were trying to grow out but were directed horizontally. She was referred to an oral surgeon and had all 4 of them out.

NeedAnExpert · 26/11/2019 11:23

I’m 42 and don’t have any either. Nor any pre-molars. I only have 23 teeth and one of those is a milk one because there was no adult tooth to push it out.

My dad had a whole extra set of teeth that had to be removed, so my dental evolution seems to have been pretty radical!
