I have some very boring tasks I have to do that are going to take ages.

Please recommend me some interesting, shocking things to listen to whilst I work away. Either on YouTube or a podcast.

OP posts:

Hi OP. Just bumping for you. I would love some recommendations too for any podcasts or radio shows on catch up.

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 26/11/2019 20:58

Fortunately with Fi Glover and Jane Garvey is brilliant.

I like Shagged, married, annoyed with Chris and Rosie Ramsey too.

If you listen to the archers then the Dum Tee Dum podcast is good.

I also listen to the Kermode and Mayo film review podcast even though I hardly ever watch films!

Hepsibar · 26/11/2019 20:59

Fathering Autism channel

Satsuma001 · 26/11/2019 21:00

Dear Joan and Jericha podcast is the best laugh you'll have this year! Prepare for some sick and twisted laughs!

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 26/11/2019 21:01

Oooh, and the secret world of slimming clubs is very funny if you've ever been to any kind of fat club

funnyoldonion · 26/11/2019 21:02

My dad wrote a porno is hilarious!

HoneyBee03 · 26/11/2019 21:07

I'm hooked on the Unexplained podcast, I listen on Spotify but it could be elsewhere. Its lots of true stories of the unexplained (of course). Some are creepy, some are about people who have gone missing, poltergeists, strange happenings, etc. The guy who does it also has a fantastic voice that's really suited to the podcast.

redpickle · 26/11/2019 21:08

Russel Kane's Evil Genius is funny and fascinating. It raises some really interesting questions.

hamstersarse · 26/11/2019 21:12

Making sense with Sam Harris

Don’t tell me the score

Tabloid (Ivanka Trump)

Revisionist History - Malcolm gladwell

Joe Rogan (of course!)

Full disclosure with James O’Brien gets some decent guests

Freakanomics radio

SpaceCadet4000 · 26/11/2019 21:12

Some good podcasts. Less funny, more interesting:

-The Dream, all about MLMs

-Caliphate, it's a little old now but it's about ISIS fighters

-Containers, it's about how shipping containers changed the world. Sounds boring but is utterly mindblowing

-The Clearing, about a woman whose dad was a serial killer

-Revisionist History, ongoing series where Malcome Gladwell comes at various historical events from interesting perspectives

-This Land, about how a pending US Supreme Court case could redesignate a large proportion of Oaklahoma as tribal land all based on the verdict of a murder trial

hamstersarse · 26/11/2019 21:16

I also like the Dr Phil podcasts if you are into either a bit of self development or insight into murderers 🥴

Quillette is good too

Feel better live more - great!!

The TED interviews

I listen to a LOT of podcasts

hamstersarse · 26/11/2019 21:18

I would also recommend Jordan Peterson’s biblical lectures....I know it sounds horrendous but the Cain and Abel one is absolutely mind blowingly good

TheGlaikitRambler · 26/11/2019 21:19

My favourite podcats are -

The History of English

Mythunderstood (about Greek/Norse mythology but funny)

hamstersarse · 26/11/2019 21:20

Containers sounds good 👌🏼

I love random topics that open your mind...I’m about to subscribe 👍🏼

RIBlue · 26/11/2019 21:22

Serial - first series covers a murder case, third follows various cases in a court house and is a terrifying/interesting insight to the American justice system. Not sure on the second as I’ve listened out of order but a 4 hour drive passed in the blink of an eye last week!

Laquila · 26/11/2019 21:23

I’m looking up the containers one immediately!

If you’re a podcast fan then you probably already listen to No Such Thing as a Fish, which is brilliant.

Likewise S-Town, which is BANANAS and amazing (sort of true crime/real-life fascinating and flawed humans).

lljkk · 26/11/2019 21:27

Some of the true crime documentaries like radio 5 does are good.

Entire backlog of Brexitcast. Living history.
13 minutes to the Moon.

hamstersarse · 26/11/2019 21:28

Joe Rogan is an amazing podcaster. I was initially put off him by his ‘fighter’ image but he’s such an amazing human and so engaging and genuine. I think he gets 10 million downloads per episode....he’s HUGE!

Pick your interviewees carefully - he’ll have people you are interested in. I don’t listen to many of his fight talks or comedian talks but he’s got EVERYONE who’s anyone on there and has amazing chats with all of them

Esiotrot87 · 26/11/2019 21:31

The Missing Cryptoqueen podcast by the BBC was great. It’s about a lady who created a new cryptocurrency which was sold via MLM methods....then she ran off with the money and hasn’t been seen for years

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 26/11/2019 21:37

Guilty Feminist is brilliant, and if you like that Global Pillage, Made of Human, and Hoovering. All lefty feminist/socialist type stuff, bit political, bit comedy.

Legomadx2 · 26/11/2019 22:40

Dear Joan and Jericha is very funny.

Ice Valley about a body found on a Norwegian mountainside is atmospheric.

Apparently Where Should We Begin about a NYC shrink talking to patients is great - I'm about to start that.

cricketmum84 · 26/11/2019 22:42

My sister had been listening to My dad wrote a porno. She says it's hilarious and absolutely addictive

DelurkingAJ · 26/11/2019 22:45

I like the Economist’s daily ‘The Intelligence’ and I know a lot more about world current affairs than I used to.

More or Less is usually fascinating as is The Infinite Monkey Cage.

Off to download some of the earlier recommendations...

Cinammoncake · 26/11/2019 22:47

What a great thread. Thanks OP Smile

BIWI · 26/11/2019 22:55

Off Menu podcast - every Wednesday. James Acaster and Ed Gamble - it's really funny! This week is the last of the current series, but there are 2 series you can listen back to

Kermode & Mayo's film review, every Friday

The Kitchen Cabinet - Jay Rayner's Radio 4 panel show. It's a bit like Gardener's Question Time, but about food

Out to Lunch - Jay Rayner takes a celeb out to lunch and chats with them

Friday Night Comedy - BBC Radio 4 comedy (The Now Show, with Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt)
