Am I the only one not to get the hype over “The Crown”?

Started watching this week after multiple recommendations but it’s boring me rigid. Currently there’s an episode on in the background about who becomes the queens private secretary. I’m so bored I am MNing while it’s on! From what I’ve seen so far there’s so much focus on small details and it’s so drawn out. Are all 3 series so slow moving? If so I will give up now!

Ah yes, Identify I was pleased to see Pip Torrens reappear in series 3 as Lascelles. He’s fantastic, exuding a old fashioned, stiff and formal air of power, control and seriousness. He’s pretty scary, actually!

What a strange thread. Surely we all like different things? I'm not interested in reality tv, EastEnders, Game of Thrones or "bingeing box sets" but accept that other people do and I don't feel I need to force myself to understand why. If you've started mumsnetting while it's on its probably worth switching it off and watching something else.

I don’t think it’s a strange thread. She’s just asked a question.

My question really was, does it gather pace or just stay the same? There’s a lot of episodes left and I am in 2 minds as to whether to continue investing my time in it! I don’t think that’s “strange”. And yes I guess I was disappointed after all the hype. I don’t know what I was expecting exactly but I guess something a bit more gripping and was curious to see if anyone else felt a little let down by it.

I think it does become more compulsive as it goes along and deals with mini scandals and crises that draw you in. I'd stick with it a little longer if I were you.

There was nothing remotely strange about your OP, don't worry!

I enjoyed the first two seasons immensely..my era
I’ve only just started watching the third season
I just miss all the actors from the first series..I’m sure they could’ve been aged

Dowser · 27/11/2019 09:31

Oh and loose lips ( Paul Burrell) said it’s uncannily accurateto real Palace life.

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 12:16

nah you're totally right. Occupies the same place as Jane Austen adaptions in my head. I really dont give a shit which witty toff marries which.

Well my favourite bit of season 1 was when Anthony Eden was having an operation in Boston (MA), so indisposed, and Churchill had a stroke and they hushed up that no one was really in charge. Not a posh marriage in sight.

But then I am also a Jane Austin fan - books not TV series.

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 13:02

Sounds even more tedious than toff weddings to be honest

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 13:03

Every series should be like the Sopranos. Punctuated by main characters being violently bumped off.

Cookit · 27/11/2019 13:08

1 and 2 were great. It took me a few episodes to get into it but I then rewatched both seasons a few times.

3 I’ve finished but I didn’t love. I was counting down the days until it was back! I won’t be doing that with season 4..

DreamingofSunshine · 27/11/2019 13:30

What hasn't been accurate in series 3?i wasn't born so don't remember it.

TowerRingInferno · 27/11/2019 13:36

I loved series 1 and 2. Have enjoyed series 3 but not to the same extent.

Still can’t get over them showing the Queen and Prince Philip watching the news with their breakfast when breakfast tv didn’t come until much later!

That is a huge blooper. I remember the launch of Breakfast TV at least 15? years after that scene. (And no video yet either).
