who are you voting for?

OP posts:
FelixFelicis6 · 25/11/2019 20:53

No idea! Possibly Lib Dems but I don’t really like them either. Definitely not Labour.

Watto1 · 25/11/2019 20:55

It’s a question I’m struggling with. Not labour, not Lib Dem, certainly not Brexit or Plaid Cymru. I really don’t know Confused

Littleunicorndreams · 25/11/2019 21:23

so not Boris?

OP posts:
BlueGingerale · 25/11/2019 21:25

Labour. Need to get Boris out. I very strongly don’t want his Brexit it deal.

Watto1 · 25/11/2019 21:28

Much as I am a remainer, I might have to vote conservative as the thought of Jeremy Corbyn running the country brings me out in a cold sweat. With the first past the post system we have, voting for the smaller parties is a waste of a vote.

Portillista · 25/11/2019 21:31

You can guess my politics from my username.

I have been an ardent Tory voter for 30 years. However... I am now an equally ardent Remainer, and there is no home in the Conservative party for me.

Now I am all at sea. I can't vote for Boris and the Tory Brexit party. But I can't bear to vote for any of the lefties either. I would sooner chew my arm off than vote Labour.

I will probably vote Lib Dem as my constituency is a safe Conservative seat, but the Lib Dems are trying hard, and have provided some excellent local councillors. It goes against the grain, though, as I dislike many of their policies. But not quite as much as I dislike Brexit.

FML.

Kez200 · 25/11/2019 21:50

I shall vote LD or Labour, depending on which looks best tactically.

Ill be shafted under Labour (not income tax increases) but I agree with their policies I just wouldnt be so extreme.

At the end of the day the Tories are a far right faction now. Hell bent on chaos. Refusing to release the russia report. Lying beyond belief. If they can act like this, and win, I dread to think what the next 5 years will be like. So I ve two weeks to try to work out which one of the two will be best to give my vote to.

Littleunicorndreams · 25/11/2019 22:36

I guess it depends a lot what your constituency is?

I was wondering about this earlier - Johnson has staked everything on Brexit but there must be a sizeable chunk of Tory remainers so it's a big dilemma for them

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/11/2019 22:43

Don’t have much choice really , I’ll have to vote Conservative, as I will not vote labour , and can’t vote Lib Dem as they’ve done a deal with Plaid Cymru , and I’m certainly not voting for them

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 25/11/2019 22:58

Plaid are a great party, unfortunately I can't vote for them as I live in England now. Just out of interest, why have you ruled them out?

auditoryhallucinations · 25/11/2019 23:38

Still conservative for me. I am a remainer but I would rather leave the EU than have corbyn in office...

Hereismyreply · 26/11/2019 00:14

For those of you who feel unable to vote Labour due to concerns about a Corbyn-led government, I would suggest you take a look at the odds the bookies are offering on who ends up with a majority www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/next-uk-general-election/overall-majority
They think the most likely result is a Tory majority. The next most likely result is no overall majority. But just look at the odds they are offering on a Labour majority! 25/1 typically. Some even as high as 30/1. With odds like that they are really confident that Corbyn is not going to get a majority. If you refuse to vote Labour on principle, nothing I say is going to convince you to do so. But if you refuse to vote tactically Labour because you're worried their policies are way too radical for you, I would ask you to reconsider, because quite frankly there is no way Labour are going to get any radical policies through, as they are just not going to have the majority to do so. (And let's face it, even with a small Labour majority, rebel Labour MPs would soon start to make their presence felt.)

SilverySurfer · 26/11/2019 03:00

I'm a Tory. I happen to be a Leaver but even if I were a Remainer I would rather put my feet in boiling oil than vote Labour.

daisychain01 · 26/11/2019 03:36

I'm voting for the candidate I know cares about our local community. Otherwise my choices are stark.

I'm fed up with our Tory constituency MP who doesn't even live in the area so couldn't give a stuff about local issues.

No way will I vote for a candidate in an anti-Semitic party who wants to tax us til the pips squeak (spending pledge of £30bn ???? against the Tory pledge of £3bn).

LibDems not standing because they're giving way to Greens.

Fine, Greens it will be, at least I can feel reasonably OK with that, not great but OK, not a wasted vote in our area.

GiantKitten · 26/11/2019 04:17

@daisychain01

The Tory manifesto was only costed so low because they think it’s fair to omit the cost of all pledges made earlier.

They cut out £130bn that way. A neat trick Hmm

The missing costs are detailed here.

aggitatedstate · 26/11/2019 04:34

Lib Dem. first time ever I've not voted Tory.

JoannaObrien · 26/11/2019 04:40

I voted remain and I am Conservative party member I joined to help keep Corbyn out of number 10 because Labour will destroy this country with the amount money they want to spend and I wonder where all that money is coming from? because just increasing tax won't cover it.

Mayborn · 26/11/2019 04:45

@Hereismyreply the problem is that bc e we don’t know what Lib Dem’s would so in a Corbyn minority government. What would they support, what would they oppose? Unless I know that I can’t vote for them. I also think Jeremy Corbyn would bankrupt the country and pillage people’s income and savings to pay for it.

Luckingfovely · 26/11/2019 04:54

I was a lifelong Tory, but not any more.

GiantKitten · 26/11/2019 15:15

Far from bankrupting the country...

163 economists write to the FT to support Corbyn’s plans. (Left-leaning economists, granted, but presumably not fiscally suicidal)

The Labour party received a boost on Tuesday when 163 economists signed a public letter offering broad support for its proposals for higher public investment to kick start growth and raise productivity.
The letter published in the Financial Times lamented Britain’s poor economic performance of the past decade, called for “a serious injection of public investment” and said Britain would benefit from greater state involvement in national economic management.
”It seems clear to us that the Labour party has not only understood the deep problems we face, but has devised serious proposals for dealing with them. We believe it deserves to form the next government,” the letter said.

Of course the Tories will rubbish their plans, but they haven’t exactly proved themselves honest & trustworthy recently, have they...

GiantKitten · 26/11/2019 15:25

Money for renationalisation will be borrowed, as the Tories have borrowed for the last 9 years, but the country will have assets & income as a result (unlike with the Tories’ borrowing. God knows where that’s all gone, with austerity & all Confused)
