..... supporting their lecturers instead of asking for their money back. Education is not a commodity like a big mac.

30k in your late 20s isnt a charmed life Hmm it's slightly above the national average but not mega bucks by any stretch.

I am a student being impacted as part of my course isn't running and I work as support staff in a different university. (Although not one thats striking.) Its interesting. Very different to when I did my undergrad 15 years ago. Everything is very customer focused.

I really sympathise about the number of people on temporary contracts, however I do think the pensions changes are pretty much inevitable. Terms and conditions in universities are great compared to private or charity sectors so its very hard for a lot of people to sympathise. I don't generally believe striking achieves anything unless you have public opinion on your side.

Above the national average for someone who has been working maybe 5 years is good though.

Good yes, but with absolutely no security. No movement on spinal points for many. It's certainly not a charmed life that's for sure.
