Getting my ducks in a row

ILoveAnOwl · 24/11/2019 18:49

Is there a thread somewhere that tells me specifically what I need to do?

I'm getting together savings and have worked out tax credits etc. I have mine and the children's passports. I have enough money for months deposit on a rental house.

What else please?

Birth certificates, irreplaceable family photos and mementoes etc. Copies of his recent payslips, bank statements, pension documents, basically copies of everything financial both joint and his only that you can get your hands on. Store everything somewhere like at work, or with a trusted friend or family member.

What is your housing situation?

Think you need to look into universal credit as leaving a partner is a change of circumstances that triggers a switch .

Also if any of the house Bill are in your name take meter reading before you go.

Thanks for the replies.

All the bills are in my name so that's a great point. I'll need to let all the companies know before I go and switch it into his name. Also metre readings.

Housing is that we're living in a jointly owned (but mainly mortgage, only been here 18 months family home) and I'd be going into private rented. His parents paid the deposit on this place. I hate it and it needs loads of work doing to it so 8m happy to go.

We're not claiming any tax credits currently so I guess I need to wait until I leave before I apply.

Are you claiming child benefit already?

WineandPretzels · 24/11/2019 21:43

If money is going to be right just add a few things onto the weekly shop now, just an odd extra pack of stuff like washing powder, loo roll, shampoo etc.

ILoveAnOwl · 24/11/2019 22:18

I get the child benifit into my account.

My son also gets middle rate DLA which goes into his account.

Stockpiling bits and bobs also a great idea.

Thanks so much.

Money will be OK once the tax credits/universal credit kicks in.

I could always ask my parents for help as well as I had to. They would be so pleased to see me leave him they'd probably sell an organ if they had to!

Nothing to add just want to say Good Luck! I’ve been where you are, the other side is great! 💐
