Would you eat this chicken?

I have a packet of diced chicken breast that has a date of 22nd on it- I planned to cook it and eat it today before I realised the date. Would you still eat it?

Money is super tight this month (ie none!) to replace it so I’m hoping you’re going to say yes you would!

I would!

marmiteandmarmalade · 24/11/2019 12:50

As long as it doesn't have a nasty smell when you open it.

rottiemum88 · 24/11/2019 12:51

Erm... I might have done on the 23rd when it was one day out of date but personally wouldn't risk it after that. Sorry OP

You will soon know if its off when you sniff it.

EmmaC78 · 24/11/2019 12:52

I would go by smell too and eat it if it smells ok.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 12:52

I have a really good sense of smell so that’s a good idea!

Northernsoullover · 24/11/2019 12:52

No I wouldn't. I've been known to go a day after but definitely not two. Its not worth it.

Whatsitlike · 24/11/2019 12:52

Does it smell? Is it slimy?

If not we would use it

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 12:54

It looks fine tbh.

stepbackfromthecircles · 24/11/2019 12:56

Not a chance!

Tink1990 · 24/11/2019 12:58

Don't do it! It really isn't worth it if it makes you sick.

Katinski · 24/11/2019 13:02

Smell it! If it smells OK, use it. If it smells 'off' bin it (or, if like me, you've got a fox living nearby, put it out for him/her). Smile

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2019 13:06

Use your nose! I'd eat it as long as it smelled OK.

Fraggling · 24/11/2019 13:07

If it smells fine and looks fine then yes.

Often eat out of date food round here. The dates are super cautious for obvious reasons.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 20:12

Well we’ve eaten it so fingers crossed! Grin

Bunney2020 · 24/11/2019 20:18

The flesh doesn’t know what date it is, it goes off when it goes off. If it smells ok it should be fine. Keep us updated if you start to feel rumblings Grin

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 21:30

Ha! Will do Grin

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/11/2019 21:32

How does it look and smell? That's the chef's test

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 21:47

philomena too late! Grin

Flymetothetoon · 24/11/2019 22:48

I never go by dates on the packaging - so wasteful! Loaf of bread we are currently using has a BBD of 20/11 and it it is still fresh and soft similar bacon/chicken just use eyes and nose rather than the nanny state date!

Eckhart · 24/11/2019 22:51

The bacteria in meat that give you food poisoning doesn't smell. They often coincide with the off smell, but can be there without it.

I'd leave it, OP.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 22:53

Since it’s 10.52pm at night and we ate dinner nearly 5 hours ago, it might be a bit late.

OctoberLovers · 24/11/2019 22:53

The thread was from early afternoon!

Good luck OP !!

Eckhart · 24/11/2019 22:54

Oh! You'd probably be feeling a bit off by now if it wasn't ok!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/11/2019 22:58

Just going to bed so fingers crossed!
