Chrome book help please!

I’d like to buy my ds a chrome book for his birthday but I’m going round in circles when I look at RAM/GB etc.

I would like to spend £150 max. It will mainly be used for his homework but also for watching Netflix, YouTube etc. His school uses Google classroom for homework.

Please could anyone recommend me one?

Hoping to get one in the Black Friday deals that are around at the moment.

TIA

Chromebook are great for a simple web browser and email, YouTube. Etc

No Microsoft Office will not work on it or any other third party software.

I've just bought a fab one which I use for uni work (I use both Google docs.and work/PowerPoint) and have mixed music on it, it's an Asus one think it was about £130 from John Lewis (it was the same price as Curry's PC world but the staff ignored me for 20 and then said it would take 2 weeks to deliver, where as John Lewis staff were brilliant and it was next day delivery!)

I don't know the ram on mine but it's an acer one. Similar to a previous poster the staff at currys were terrible so I went next door and got it at Argos. It's great, I use Google office suite for everything and watch netflix/browse the internet easily.

Chromebooks are good, and can run Office. You just either need to use their web interface with an Office 365 subscription, or sign using your normal Microsoft Office login account. If you have a newer Chromebook (made within the past 4 years) with Android app support, you will be able to install the Microsoft Office Android apps from the Google Play Store and work offline.

You'll be pushing it to get a Chromebook with 4GB RAM for under £150, so be prepared to be limited to 2GB RAM.

Be wary though, Chromebooks only get firmware and security updates for 6.5 years from the date the model was first manufactured, not from date of purchase. Shops invariably do not tell you the date of manufacture, so please do a Google search when researching when a specific model first hit the market.

I wouldn't get one with less than 4GB of RAM. If you go for 2, you'll find you get tabs freezing and general frustration! I wouldn't worry much about the rest of the spec.
