Is anyone buying anything for black Friday?

I've bought one thing only, a present for a big birthday for my mum, that is genuinely half price compared to the best price for the last few months. I think a lot of the deals aren't that great though. How about you?

Plus, I think it's worth speaking out against consumerism & huge wastefulness.

Got the switch deal from currys. We have a list of what we want and look around for the best prices which are usually Black friday. Obviously impulse spending on stuff you dont really want isn't good, but not everyone uses it like that.
Last year birchbox did 2 boxes for £5, I'm hoping they do the same this year and then thats dd's stocking sorted.

It's not a thread about Black Friday deals.

Oh right, must have been the title, OP and subsequent posts listing Black Friday deals that misled me.

@minou123 thanks for that, they sound like they would be great for my mum

@iklboo, it really wouldn't surprise me. But DTwatCat #1, who has guts of steel, will eat anything that has a picture of a cat on the front, so will probably treat it as all the more for him.

#2 is about 16 now and allegedly a purebred (I think the BYB saw my old neighbour coming a mile off and just flogged her the accidental kitty in the litter), so if she does go off it, I think she's reached the age where if she has to be fed poached chicken, cod and prawns on bone china plates by candlelight and with the other one hammering on the door all the while she does delicately nibble at the flakes, well, at least they're cheaper in the supermarket.

It would still be a better outcome than the vastly expensive crate of specialist Renal/Liver tins Best Cat had bought for her, as she promptly decided to expire five days later. The PDSA appreciated the donation, however.

makes grumbling noises about how the animals always seem to end up eating better than we do

Just got the echo. Its brilliant. Very simple to set up.
So plug in the echo and download the Alexa app. It talks you through what to do.
Then put in the light bulbs, to which ever lamps/lights you want. Turn them on.
Then say "alexa, find devices, " and it automatically pairs with the lights.

I've just spent 30mins turning the lights on and off and dimming them! Grin
I need to get a life! Smile

Haven't bought anything yet but I'm hoping to get a decent deal on an Echo on the day. I don't get paid till Thursday so can't do much before then.

I get a really good discount through work so I've already used that for alot of my shopping.

We've ended up with loads. KitchenAid mixer (early Xmas present), Ring Pro doorbell (that came with an Echo show 5 free) and a new dot.

I'm after sport bras. Not very exciting I know, but an online sportswear shop I use had a very good sale last year so I'm hoping for the same this year. Added bonus is that it's on payday too.

DH is renewing his phone contract this week (up for renewal on Tuesday) so hoping for a good deal.

Got a great deal on some skis for DH. He’s been skiing on a secondhand pair we got 12 years ago for $50, so I decided to be a consumerist sheeple and suggest he get a new pair while they’re cheaper.

He’s looking ski boots too. Oh the shame.

Has anyone spotted any good deals on fridges and freezers? That’s my priority right now, but afraid to look in case I get tempted by other electrical ( but unnecessary) stuff!

@GalactiCat Lily's Kitchen. Been through everything else (James Wellbeloved, Origen, stuff from Germany/Sweden/etc) and she either doesn't like them or they don't like her.

DTwatCat #1 loves LK as well, so no worries about having to convince Madam that the enticing smell of IAMS isn't for her (bastarding shitty stuff that she'd eat above anything else if she had the choice) and it means I'm saved Healthy Cat on Shit Food Arse smell, too.

Ill be a sheep flocking to the city for some shopping on black Friday purely because I am off work that day and can afford to will only buy things I genuinely would purchase full price though.

  • Kindle Fire HD10 for DD (saved about £30) and DS now gets her old one for Christmas too!
  • New oven and hob from AO. Hob is on the blink, one ring dead and the other has error messages popping up. Oven is working but the last original appliance so figured best to replace at the same time. Saved about £400. Now to find an electrician to connect them!!

Absolutely not. I don't buy into any of this consumerist bollocks

My toaster is on its last legs but, oh no, I'm not buying into comsumerist bollocks and wait a few days to see if the price goes down, I'm going to waste my money and buy it today regardless.

I guess some have more money that sense

I don't have a toaster @coconuttelegraph

One of the reasons we have enough money to travel, go to shows, etc. is that we don't waste money on household crap like dishwashers & toasters.

Some of us travel extensively and can afford dishwashers and toasters, partly because we spend as little as possible on the things we need, like dishwashers and tablets, leaving as much as possible left for travel and other fun stuff.
