First straighteners/ straightening brush/ hair 'implement'?

My daughter, 12, has asked for straighteners for Christmas. She has thick, long, straight hair.

I have short curly hair and no experience whatsoever with this.

I think she wants to try different hair styles, she's plaiting it overnight which 'crimps' her hair.

Any recommendations? I'm a little concerned about her burning herself, her carpet etc. Any ideas used by your preteens or younger teens?

I am genuinely clueless so thanks in advance.

Dd's hair is long, v thick with a bit of a wave. She used my GHDs and recently got a pair of her own, cant recall which ones, but have wider plates than mine, so better supposedly for lots of hair.
She has been good with them although I have put the fear of god into her about fires and burning holes in things. I have a heatproof mat for pans that I make her use to put the straighteners on when she has finished and remove the plug from the wall and we have had no problems.

I have long thick hair and use Cloud 9's.

Thanks. I'll check out the Cloud 9s.

Drinkcider, if you recall the brand could you let me know? Cheers.

They are Ghd max hair.

I started using straighteners around 12. My mum got me a heat proof mat to put them on so no concerns about burns on tables, etc. I don’t recall burning my fingers or anything but I know these days you can eat heat proof gloves that people often use with curling wands if you think your daughter might burn herself . Also some of the more expensive brands have an automatic turn off function so if they have been on and not used for a certain amount of time they turn themselves off.

Babyliss titanium pearlescent £29.99 with heat mat included from Argos adjustable temp and straighten my wavy frizzy hair poker straight and better than my ghd ones I had.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/11/2019 20:58

I've used Babyliss for years. I find them excellent, and they come with a heatproof mat. Encourage her to wrap the mat around the straighteners when she's finished with them, that way there won't be any accidental burns or scorch marks.

I gave my GHDs to my DD. Good, but you are paying mainly for the name.

GHD's. I have long thick wavy hair, and used cheap straighteners for years and until I used my GHD's i never realised how much straighter it could be! Plus the condition of my hair is now a thousand times better. I'd never use any others now.
