First straighteners/ straightening brush/ hair 'implement'?

My daughter, 12, has asked for straighteners for Christmas. She has thick, long, straight hair.

I have short curly hair and no experience whatsoever with this.

I think she wants to try different hair styles, she's plaiting it overnight which 'crimps' her hair.

Any recommendations? I'm a little concerned about her burning herself, her carpet etc. Any ideas used by your preteens or younger teens?

I am genuinely clueless so thanks in advance.

Dd's hair is long, v thick with a bit of a wave. She used my GHDs and recently got a pair of her own, cant recall which ones, but have wider plates than mine, so better supposedly for lots of hair.
She has been good with them although I have put the fear of god into her about fires and burning holes in things. I have a heatproof mat for pans that I make her use to put the straighteners on when she has finished and remove the plug from the wall and we have had no problems.

I started using straighteners around 12. My mum got me a heat proof mat to put them on so no concerns about burns on tables, etc. I don’t recall burning my fingers or anything but I know these days you can eat heat proof gloves that people often use with curling wands if you think your daughter might burn herself . Also some of the more expensive brands have an automatic turn off function so if they have been on and not used for a certain amount of time they turn themselves off.

Babyliss titanium pearlescent £29.99 with heat mat included from Argos adjustable temp and straighten my wavy frizzy hair poker straight and better than my ghd ones I had.

I've used Babyliss for years. I find them excellent, and they come with a heatproof mat. Encourage her to wrap the mat around the straighteners when she's finished with them, that way there won't be any accidental burns or scorch marks.

I gave my GHDs to my DD. Good, but you are paying mainly for the name.

GHD's. I have long thick wavy hair, and used cheap straighteners for years and until I used my GHD's i never realised how much straighter it could be! Plus the condition of my hair is now a thousand times better. I'd never use any others now.
