Driving test tomorrow. Any wise words

I have got my driving test tomorrow and I am pretty nervous. I am normally pretty relaxed in these situations but I have got a lot of other things going on with families bad health and it would be a massive help for me to pass.
I am just looking for wise words.

Don't offer the instructor a glass of wine before you drive off.

Good luck, try to relax and don't stress if you make a mistake. When I passed I was convinced I'd failed.

spacepyramid · 22/11/2019 17:41

^ examiner!

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/11/2019 17:42

Eat a banana before your test.

lurkingfromhome · 22/11/2019 17:46

Just pretend you're giving the examiner a lift home. I started out with that mindset and found the whole thing actually quite fun (well, maybe not fun, exactly, but I definitely relaxed about 5 minutes in and it was all fine).

SlimGin · 22/11/2019 17:56

What helped me was thinking that's its only 35 minutes of decent, safe driving. When you think how many hours you've done in lessons 35 minutes is nothing, it also goes by pretty quickly.
The examiner should ask a couple of questions to put you at ease a bit, which really helped me calm my nerves. He asked me things I wouldn't really have to think about such as 'what would you be doing today if it wasn't this'.
Don't let technical things fail you. My friend failed because the indicator turned off when she was on a roundabout and she didn't realise, so didn't put it back on.

Good luck!!

SpaceCadet4000 · 22/11/2019 18:01

Chat to the examiner. I passed on my third time and it was the only time I'd really struck up a conversation with the examiner and it put me at ease. I honestly thought I'd failed too as I caught myself going above the speed limit at one stage- perhaps he didn't notice with all the talking.

pud1 · 22/11/2019 18:03

Thank you. My instructor told me to have a banana for breakfast. What’s so good about bananas.
I feel like I am fully prepared but I also know that a moments lapse of concentration and I could blow it

Shock a fellow pud! Good luck!

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/11/2019 18:05

My instructor told me, just before my first test to drive a bit faster and show him I could drive. I failed. The next time he told me to drive as if I was taking my Granny to church. I passed

AuntieJuice · 22/11/2019 18:06

I passed recently and was fully expecting it to go badly, having had a pretty rubbish week already. Oddly enough, that mindset of 'oh well, it's already been a bit of a tough week' actually helped and I was a lot calmer going into it.

Branleuse · 22/11/2019 18:06

Wear lucky pants. Thats what finally helped me pass

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/11/2019 18:08

Take a deep breath and don’t rush things. Remember it doesn’t matter if you don’t turn in the direction your instructor tells you to, provided you are safe.

Jubilation · 22/11/2019 18:10

If you make a mistake e.g while reverse parking (I know the test has changed)like I did. I asked the examiner what I should do. He said, just do what you'd do if I wasn't here. So I tried again. I passed. When I told my instructor he said he must have felt very calm and relaxed with my driving in general. I know this won't apply to all mistakes! And breathe slowly to calm yourself down. It's a short time in your life and it will soon be over. Good luck!

PollyShelby · 22/11/2019 18:19

If you feel tense, literally relax your shoulders. It'll send a nice warmth through you and sends out calming vibes

You got this.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/11/2019 22:31

What’s so good about bananas. it’s the potassium it helps with blood sugars like nature’s beta blockers.

Jog22 · 23/11/2019 00:48

Listen.

notsodimwit · 23/11/2019 00:54

Good luck with the test today Flowers

safariboot · 23/11/2019 00:55

It's just another driving lesson, only thing is the person sat next to you is a bit less chatty than normal.

I know it's easier said than done, but that's how I thought of it. By the time I took my test I'd already done so many lesson and mock tests that it was really no different to any other lesson. (Needed two attempts to pass though.)

midsomermurderess · 23/11/2019 05:27

You have had enough lessons to being you up to the point of having a test so you can do it. Of course you'll be nervous, but you have the skills to do it. So, do it.

paw1977 · 23/11/2019 07:18

2 paracetamol and 2 bananas before hand . I also took kalms for 4 weeks beforehand .

I was so nervous .. felt I was going to throw up. But then when I got in the car I relaxed and just thought oh well this is it , and there's nothing I can do than drive safely . You can always do the test again .

I was lucky enough that I really lovely examiner who put me at ease and we chatted the whole test, which I actually flew by.

Keep checking your mirrors all the time , so the examiner see that you are being viligant.

I passed with 2 minors and I hugged the examiner after .

That was 2 years ago today.

good luck

pud1 · 23/11/2019 13:58

Well. It didn’t go too well. The positives are that I would have passed if it was not for the MASSIVE mistake I made. My minors where good and I wasn’t too nervous. Manoeuvre went well as did emergency stop. BUT. When you jump a red light you are buggered. SmileSmile

Ha ha. I did that. A minute from the end of lesson with the centre in view. Passed third go though so all well in the end.

LonginesPrime · 23/11/2019 14:32

Sorry to hear that, OP - you should have eaten more bananas.

If it makes you feel any better, my mother forgot she was on a single carriageway on her test and drive straight into the path of the traffic coming the other way when the examiner told her to take a right at the next roundabout. Shock

safariboot · 23/11/2019 14:52

Oops.

I remember twice I nearly ran a red light, once in lessons (instructor hit the brake) and once as a new driver (I went through then stopped about a car length over the line). Both times it was because I was looking at a different light - some junctions can be really confusing.

Hope things go well next time.

SlimGin · 23/11/2019 18:20

Ah well, at least you know you would have passed otherwise, so hopefully will be confident for next time.
I'm pretty sure I went through a red light the other day. I was looking at the lane next to me's lights change to green and I just went.
