I’m home already with cuppa after work (im a teacher and we all ran out of school 🤣) and just had a phone call from a friend who was on her way out the door of her workplace. Is this common practice? Who else leaves work early on a Friday!! It’s bliss!! Grin

I usually work at home on a Friday but if I am in the office it starts to clear pretty much from 4pm onwards. I can work late other days but Friday I try and get out on time as much as possible. Nothing to do with the glass of wine waiting for me at home Grin

MissMogwai · 22/11/2019 17:36

4:30 and I'm out the door. My office is a blur of swishing costs and spinning chairs as everyone legs it.

They get enough out of me the other 4 days a week lies

MissMogwai · 22/11/2019 17:39

*coats not costs. No one gives a shit about costs by 4:30 Grin

fedup21 · 22/11/2019 17:40

It’s not called POETS day for nothing!

BuildBuildings · 22/11/2019 17:42

I relish my weekends after too many years working them while doing my MA part time.

Ragwort · 22/11/2019 17:43

No, another who works in retail so I never have that ‘Friday’ feeling, but I have the flexibility to choose my days and I love having time off in the week, lovely day off today Grin.

ClientListQueen · 22/11/2019 17:43

@Sparklingbrook oh yes. I'm back in tomorrow!

DrDreReturns · 22/11/2019 17:44

Nope. Friday's the same as any for other day for me.

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2019 17:46

I am sure there are a lot of NHS staff wishing POETS day meant something to them too.

coldfeetallthetime · 22/11/2019 17:47

4.30pm is when my office shuts every day so HELL YESSSSSS

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/11/2019 17:48

I actually stay later on a Friday to try and clear some stuff before the weekend. Dh is at home on Fridays so it's the one day I can stay at school and get a couple of sets of books marked rather than being them home, as he's there for the school run and I don't have to get home for the childminder at 5ish. I get kicked out at 5:30 as the caretakers want to get locked up and go home, so I do still bring quite a lot home (just the 3 sets of making this weekend 🤷)

SimonJT · 22/11/2019 17:49

I don’t work Fridays, so I run out of work on a Thursday. I see my finish time being when I leave the building, not when I leave my desk!

Lipperfromchipper · 22/11/2019 17:49

No. Friday is a busy day. People will just be arriving to start work at that time.

Lollypalooza · 22/11/2019 17:56

Sparklingbrook I’m a teacher, I actually don’t work Fridays. I work “part time” Monday- Thursday. Monday I’m at school 7.30am to 6.30pm (11 hours), Tuesday 7.30am to 4.15pm (have to collect DD 4.30- 8hrs 15min), Wednesday 7.45am to 5pm (9 hrs 15mins) and Thursday 7.45am to 6.30pm (10hrs 45mins). So “part time” hours of 39 hours and 15 minutes, not including the probably 2-3 hours I do on a Friday, my “non-working” day.

Chocs44 · 22/11/2019 17:58

I'm a teacher and most of our staff stay until at least 5.30 or later on a Friday! No skipping out with the children at 3.30!!!

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2019 18:00

@Lollypalooza why are you telling me this? Presumably you get the weekends off to spend with your family?

Fuzzyspringroll · 22/11/2019 18:01

I'm a teacher, too. School finishes at 1pm on a Friday. I have a department meeting afterwards but have to pick DS up from nursery at 3pm. Means we are home by about 4pm.

Lollypalooza · 22/11/2019 18:02

Sparklingbrook because your message seemed to imply that NHS staff work harder/longer hours.

Lipperfromchipper · 22/11/2019 18:04

@Chocs44 you wouldn’t find ANYONE at our school on ANY day at 5.30!! 4.30 would be the latest and that would be after a meeting!! We are an Irish school though!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2019 18:05

No not at all @Lollypalooza nothing to do with weekday hours worked. Just about having off the two days of the week that is the norm (so able to spend time with family and go out socially on Fri/Sat evening) and therefore Friday meaning something. That was all.

Parky04 · 22/11/2019 18:05

Yep 16.00 on the dot. In by 16.30 and currently on way to pub!

SinglePringle · 22/11/2019 18:05

Yup. About 4pm I start chivvying the team out the door. They / we put the hours in during the week, often in at 8am and not leaving till 8pm. I want them down the pub / home by 5pm at the latest on a Friday.

I start reminding them to wind things up around 3pm and then at 4, we get Friday Treats of beers, wine and snacks.

Friday Feels all round!

Lollypalooza · 22/11/2019 18:08

Sparklingbook Ah ok, I see what you mean. Yes, the thing about teaching is it is very long hours while you’re doing it, but you always know when you’re going to be off. My friend is “waiting to see” whether she’ll be working Christmas, can’t book summer holidays until she has leave approved etc. For us teachers we could book our summer holidays 5 years in advance as we always know when we’ll be off! Other side of that is no flexibility to take time off for other events, plus the school holiday flight price hike!

AlexaAmbidextra · 22/11/2019 18:25

because your message seemed to imply that NHS staff work harder/longer hours.

Well they certainly work more unpleasant/unsocial/family unfriendly hours, ie. evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
