Has anyone ever seen any real magic?

Not magicians/slight of hand, tricks etc but real, bona fide magic?

I haven’t but I wish I had!

How would you know whether it was real or illusory?

Ffsnosexallowed · 21/11/2019 18:24

There's no such thing

PassTheSaltCarol · 21/11/2019 18:24

Good question! Partly the context I suppose. If someone wasn’t setting out to trick you (like magicians are if you see what I mean!)

Ffsnosexallowed - not seeing something doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Ask the millions of people worldwide who follow a religion! But of course you are entitled to your opinion. I hope you are wrong though Grin

Only if they've been taking hallucinogens.

Love51 · 21/11/2019 18:32

As kids will tell you
Magic that works is called Science.

It doesn't stop is trying magic though!

squashyhat · 21/11/2019 18:34

I wouldn't say I have seen any - magic per se doesn't exist - but I have been in magical situations where the whole is more than the sum of the parts and you feel amazed and transformed. My favourites are good fireworks displays and loud live music for that feeling of sheer joy and wonder.

LiveatCityHall · 21/11/2019 18:35

I saw a sleight of hand illusionist at my cousin's wedding that made ms think magic was real. I had my hands balled into fists in front of me and there was absolutely nothing held in them. He didn't touch me but showed me a red pompom, did some fancy sleight of hand stuff and asked me to open my hand. Lo and behold, it was in my fist. I was totally gobsmacked and convinced that he would be getting his Hogwarts letter. It was genuinely amazing.

PaddyF0dder · 21/11/2019 18:36

No one has because it doesn’t exist.

And before anyone tries to counter, prove it or don’t bother.

LiveatCityHall · 21/11/2019 18:36

Made *me think

custardbear · 21/11/2019 18:36

Conception is magic - then a while being /animal is created with personality and free will - also is as people, the amount of sperm at the point of conception and the sperm /egg combination creates a special person - is all- the next sperm along may ha e created a genius or a monster - that's bizarre and magic imo

PassTheSaltCarol · 21/11/2019 18:42

Yes, it depends what you think magic is. I’m pretty convinced TV is magic. I mean HOW does that work?! Grin I think even if the science was explained to me I couldn’t comprehend it.

Look at an acorn then look at an oak tree. That's magic.

Autumnal changes in trees... magic.

Northern Lights..... magic.

So much magic everywhere.

Beetlewing · 21/11/2019 18:49

I think a murmuration is magic. And I think the way I loosen up after a glass of red is magic and how my kids can be grownups AND still look so much like my baby is pretty magic. It depends on your perception

Hairsprayqueeen · 21/11/2019 18:51

Metamorphosis.

Ohyesiam · 21/11/2019 18:54

Magic that works is called Science.

I’ve just read the Tao of physics, and quantum physics really is magical. It made me think that physics is an art not a science.

MrsDilligaf · 21/11/2019 18:55

I've seen a magician do close up magic. It was fascinating and I asked him to do it again and again so I could see how he was doing the trick (which is all it was in reality).

It blew my mind and then drove me mad trying to figure it out.

AutumnRose1 · 21/11/2019 18:56

Um...can you give an example? TV doesn’t count.

managedmis · 21/11/2019 18:57

Is this real? TV??!

Grin

Are you the coca cola ad?

heartsonacake · 21/11/2019 19:19

Nobody has seen it, because it doesn’t exist.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 21/11/2019 20:05

I sometimes wonder about some of the stuff rumoured in Indonesia and the Ring of Fire. I don't believe in magic as such at all, but I don't think that you can categorically dismiss that something inexplicable might happen in some of the lesser known quarters of the world

PassTheSaltCarol · 21/11/2019 22:49

Let’s face it, if anyone CAN do magic, they wouldn’t admit it on here because the Daily bastard Mail would have a story about Brexit hating occult witches influencing the election before you could say fake news.

If you read the periodic 'woo' threads on here, posters often recount paranormal type experiences, but they're always things that just happened, rather than things that were performed intentionally.

People who claim to be able to 'do magic' don't usually claim to be able to do measurable or tangible things. The lines between 'magic' and 'the power of positive thinking' can be quite blurred. So, suppose someone says they've cast a love spell on a person which means they'll meet their life partner within the next year - said person is then likely to be more alert to potential life partners appearing in their orbit - Gary from Accounts suddenly becomes a potential husband, rather than a bloke you vaguely know, for instance.
