chances of getting no entry sign moved to make part of road two way

Our house is on a one way road coming up from a busy main road. That means that the only way to access the drive is to come up from that main road.

I'd like the Council to change it so that the one way starts just after our drive. So we, and our neighbour, could drive in from the other way.

The one way would still be there so we wouldn't be able to drive to the busy road directly from our house - which is what they are trying to stop.

anyone any experience of this?

We’re going to need a diagram I’m afraid. You know the rules!

LtJudyHopps · 21/11/2019 12:50

It has to be on entry though otherwise people would enter and not be able to keep going? Or would ignore it and keep going regardless.

A workable compromise might be to retain the one way system 'except for access to properties' or other suitable wording, I'm sure I've seen that in place.

Therefore the one way system will remain in place as is, but it will be legal to go through the no entry sign (carefully!) if driving on your's or your neighbours driveways, but not carrying on along the road.

But yes, discussion of matters such as these is much easier when a diagram is provided Smile.

Probably minimal. There will have been a public consultation about it involving police, highways, residents, local council etc. Unless there are clear grounds to contradict the evidence now or it comes up as part of a new traffic policy you will struggle to get such a query off the ground, let alone the situation changed. Was it like this when you moved in? What do your neighbours and local councillor say?

misspiggy19 · 21/11/2019 13:00

Your chances are slim to none. There will have to be a traffic consultation, survey and all sorts. Won’t be a quick task either.

It wouldn't mean removing the one way. Just shifting it so the two houses x and y had access to their drives.

As a PP said, they won't move them as then if cars drove down there they would reach a dead end and have nowhere to go. Imagine a big lorry drove as far as your houses and was then stuck.

BendingSpoons · 21/11/2019 14:06

No entry except for access might be a possibility but not sure how motivated the council would be.

CatUnderTheStairs · 21/11/2019 14:22

They could make it two and say access to x and y only....

Not motivated at all is what I'd think the council would be....

They wouldn't move the one way with only a few feet to the main road. No-one would or have space to reverse back.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/11/2019 16:29

People coming from the other direction won’t be expecting you! Recipe for disaster!!
