Reaction to eye cream

I have had a bad reaction to an eye product - not so bad that I need to go to hospital but bad enough that it is quite noticeable and uncomfortable.

So my question is : do I just leave it alone to recover in its own time or is there anything I should put on to reduce swelling / irritation?

it I will take an antihistamine tablet and that may help reduce the irritation and swelling

Many thanks for any help

Hi, I once had a terrible reaction to a face cream and swelled up like a balloon. Gp advised gently cleansing with Cetaphil (no make up) and antihistamine until back to normal.
What cream was it, so I know to avoid?

What brand was it? My dd has just had a similar issue with one. Exactly the same mark.

Very surprisingly it was Clarins Shock

Is it itchy?

Try a little teeny tiny bit of hydrocortisone. You won’t be able to get it from a chemist as it’s near your eye but it’s a pain in the arse to get a doctors appointment. I get some odd allergic reaction and this is the only thing that clears it up.

I was recommended to so this by a walk in nurse, and confirmed as ok by my gp and the ophthalmology and dermatology consultants I saw last week! (Eye doc thinks I have an allergy to something but I’ll be damned if I know what it is).

@ActualHornist

I did actually use a bit of hydrocortisone yesterday (but didn’t mention in case posters did the ‘not around the eye’ thing’s)

It’s gone down a bit fortunately- in particular, the raised welt - which admittedly wasn’t very apparent the photo- has reduced

Go to Boots and get some La Roche Posay Cicaplast.

Sadiesnakes · 22/11/2019 07:55

Yes, second LRP cicaplast Baume b5, nothing but this for couple days will give it time to heal.

@Aridane I had a reaction like this from some Clarins moisturiser that I 'borrowed' from my OH a few weeks ago and my eye looked exactly like yours. I took an anti-histamine and just let it work itself out as I have a history of orbital cellulitis and am now super-paranoid about anything to do with the skin around my eyes.

Aridane · 24/11/2019 10:36

Wow - the La Roche stuff is good!

Couldn't get the exact one recommended- but still-

The extreme tightness and flakiness has gone and under eye now just looks like it needs ironing.

Thanks again
